There were a number of domestic comedy series made in the 1940's and '50s starring as the parents Jack Warner (the Huggets) Gary Marsh (the William stories)and the redoubtable Marjorie Rhodes. I'm not totally familiar with housing developments in the UK so I had trouble picturing what type of situation the Khatuns lived in, past and present. Salma clashes with Tom, their next-door neighbour, almost immediately and incidents between the two families escalate very quickly. to the ideal suburban neighbourhood of Blenheim is a fresh start for Salma Khatun, her husband Bil, and their teenage son Zain. there are a LOT of characters in this one and although the ending twist surprised me and was enjoyable, i think the main thing that was missing for me was really loving and emotionally connecting to a character.

The first half is the neighborhood/domestic suspense with the second half being the courtroom scene.

Although adapted from a play it lacks the sparkle, polish and wit to be seen in "One Wild Oat" and other productions which had been honed over long runs on the stage stage. You really do have strong feel is one way or another on what is happening and to who it is happening.When racial commentary TRULY enters the picture and is caught on video, things spiral even further out of control. This book was more a family drama/thriller than the usual legal thrillers, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. A terrific storyline that had me thinking maybe this person has a point, and the next I’d think no, the other person or family are right but ultimately neither family are completely blameless.
