About this deal

Before installing the drives, I switched from the RAID to AHCI SATA mode on my laptop. [There are various resources online showing how to do this safely]. I installed the Samsung Magician software and Samsung NVMe drivers. that is, or may reasonably be considered to be, defamatory, libelous, hateful, racially or religiously biased or offensive, unlawfully threatening or unlawfully harassing to any person or entity; Samsung does plan to eventually introduce a MLC version of the second generation of their specialized low-latency Z-NAND, but they are still in the process of rolling out the SLC version, and Z-NAND's layer count is lagging behind their general-purpose V-NAND 3D NAND. Samsung has not mentioned any plans to use Z-NAND outside of their datacenter product lines. At the other end of their NVMe product spectrum, they've disclosed plans for a 980 QVO with QLC NAND, but we aren't sure when to expect that to launch, or whether it will introduce a new controller or continue with the Phoenix controller.) TRIM support, Auto Garbage Collection Algorithm, Dynamic Thermal Guard protection, TurboWrite Technology, V-NAND Technology, NVM Express (NVMe) 1.3, Samsung Phoenix Controller, S.M.A.R.T.

The Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus is a client PC NVMe SSD with Samsung’s latest 3-bit MLC V-NAND. The 970 EVO Plus is specially designed for tech enthusiasts, hardcore gamers, and professionals who need unrivaled performance, superior reliability, and it boasts the best-in-class capacity for intensive workloads on PCs and workstations. The drives are easy to install. In my case, I had to remove the original SSD and install the 970 EVO Plus in its place. The results after installing the heatsink were astounding. (See photo). After this experience, I would recommend using a heatsink with these drives for anyone who intends to make full use of the capabilities of this drive. Interface : NVMe (PCIe Gen 3.0 x 4). Form Factor : M.2 (2280);Average Power Consumption (system level): Average: 6 W * Maximum: 9 W (Burst mode) * Actual power consumption may vary depending on system hardware & configuration. Power consumption (Idle) :Max. 30 mW * Actual power consumption may vary depending on system hardware & configuration

This is what I have found by using the drives over a month. Both drives read and write performance is nearly identical (within margin of error). The "Normal" working temperature of the made in Korea drive is between 45 - 50 degree C; whereas the "Normal" working temperature of the made in China drive is between 38 - 42 C. The 970 EVO Plus enables convenient storage expansion across many different devices. The 970 EVO Plus comes in a broad range of capacity options, made possible through Samsung’s latest V-NAND technology. In addition, the 970 EVO Plus offers high power efficiency as well as exceptional speeds, making it the ideal solution to use with application ranging from ultra-thin computing to high-performance computing systems.Capacities up to 1TB will be available from today, with the 2TB model launching in April. Pricingfor that part has not yet been announced, however it is likely to be at a similar price density per GB as the 1TB. Transitioning to 92-Layer (9xL)NAND Compared to the original 970 EVO, the 970 EVO Plus improves performance at every capacity and on every metric, but unevenly: the biggest gains are to write speeds, especially sequential writes. The 1TB model is now rated for 3.3GB/s writes to SLC cache compared to 2.5GB/s, and 1.75GB/s after the cache is full compared to 1.25GB/s. Random read speeds are about 20% better, and sequential reads see the smallest benefit with an increase from 3.4GB/s to 3.5GB/s; the PCIe 3.0 x4 interface is preventing anyone from doing much better than that. For the review today, we are testing the 250GB and 1TB versions of the Samsung 970 EVO Plus. Level up performance The 970 EVO Plus reaches sequential read/write speeds up to 3,500/3,300 MB/s, up to 57% faster than the 970 EVO. The latest V-NAND technology - which brings greater NAND performance and higher power efficiency - along with optimized firmware, a Phoenix controller, and Intelligent TurboWrite boost speed. The drives were running longer in the higher range of "Normal" to "High" during normal usage. Even though my daily work does not involve heavy write activity to the drives, working on a remote server was causing a lot of writes to the drives. I decided to install copper heatsinks on the drives to try and keep the temperatures in the "Normal" range. Paid Installations for Air Conditioners and Chimneys.
