About this deal

In a series of adventures, our hero continually finds what appear to be ideal homes, only to be turned out again when his parentage is revealed, or the circumstances of his human companions change.

A story book I'll share as it think it's a wonderful story to be read aloud on a dark stormy bedtime! Instead of learning how to turn mice into toads for the witch's brew, Gobbolino sets out on an adventure to find a family and a home of his own.A great deal of the dramatic tension of the book filters through "unfairness" which particularly resonates in a 7 year old's heart and perhaps as second-borns we could both relate to the idea of being the one who can't conform to the dominant family paradigm. She wrote and illustrated over sixty books for children with the most notable being Gobbolino the Witch's Cat and The Adventures of the Little Wooden Horse. Gobbolino by Ursula Moray Williams is the charming tale of a witch’s cat who would rather be a kitchen cat. Abandoned by his mother and her witch because his "abnormal" white paw and blue eyes makes him unsuitable as a witch's cat, Gobbolino sets off to find a loving home. One hardly expects most children's books written for this age level to grapple with such weighty issues, but Ursula Moray Williams's book does just that.

De aceea m-a dezamăgit finalul, dar per total e o poveste tare drăgălașă, potrivită atât pentru copii, cât și pentru adulți. A perfect story for A Puffin Book with charming black and white illustrations by the author, Ursula Moray Williams. So he sets out on a journey to find a new home, but when people discover he is a witch's cat he is blamed for mysterious happenings, such as the farmer's milk turning sour and the orphanage children's gruel turning into chocolate.Whether this is because the author's skill improved in the four years between the two books or because cats are easier to anthropomorphize than wooden toys, is a matter for debate.

There are 20 titles to collect in the series, listed below, all with exciting new covers and fun-filled endnotes. He is adopted by a sick princess, but when she is well again she leaves for boarding school without him, so he joins a Punch and Judy show as 'Toby the Dog', but a witch in the audience reveals him as a witch's cat. Like many good children's tales, the story of Gobbolino will give younger readers cheers and make them wonder. She said she enjoyed the book but it's not one that I enjoyed all that much, the repetitive format began to pall a bit. Sweet story about a witch’s cat who wants to be an ordinary kitchen cat, and all of his adventures on the journey to find a forever home.

Although his mother Grimalkin and sister Sootica are both witch's cats, Gobbolino longs to be a kitchen cat instead, to be loved rather than feared. Covers have scuffing and creasing150 pages, tape residue to inside cover, minor marks and wear, binding tight with roll, no reading creases to the spine.

First published in the 1940s, the story of Gobbolino the witch's cat with one white paw and bright blue eyes, has been delighting generations of young readers. I agree with a friend of mine who said the ending can also be read as a tale of trade-offs and concession. I listened to the audiobook of this, and though I enjoyed this as a 'listen', I didn't like the voice of Gobbolino much, though it didn't come along too often. The reader was taken on an emotional roller-coast of repeated anticipation, hope, then disappointment. I like the circular nature of the tale, as Gobbolino begins his journey with the river and ends at the river.
