About this deal

Honeysweet and spicy nose. Candied fruit, nuts, apples and caramel. Sweet butter. Honey. Floral. Rosemary and heather. Breakfast cereals. Not much else. Far from bad, but rather simple. You’ve got to be joking. If it’s the best scotch you’ve ever tasted, I’d be afraid to taste your cooking. The taste is quite light compared to the scent, mixing honey with a basket of nutty flavors. The finish starts off a little peppery, and rolls out into pleasant, smoky warmth. It’s a pleasant, and only slightly complex sipper, just the sort of thing for a go-to single malt for everyday drinking or to use as a starter or next step Scotch. Palate: More orchard fruit, some drying spice and a little honey initially, then water reveals a savoury hint of gamey meat is followed by a note of peppery oak and then a sweet layer of vanilla sugar. It stayed in the cooler ‘til the last night and he said “Have at it if you like, I might have some too.”

Recent Tastings

Finish: Short to medium in length and with a very pleasant gentle progressive fade. A touch of cask spicing and barley malts. Now its time for the Cragganmore 12yo which is the only speyside of these tastings so a little exited. Cragganmore is part of the Classic Malts brand by Diageo. They use lightly peated malt but it doesn’t come from their own maltings anymore because If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, the remainder of the Terms shall continue in full force and effect.

Cragganmore distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery situated in the village of Ballindalloch in Banffshire, Scotland. Balance: Cragganmore 12 is a malt which divides people. Those who like the basic, and I mean BASIC, flavours of barley-malt, often like this just fine. I have always found Cragganmore 12 to be quite pleasant and enjoyable. There is really no "WOW" factor present, though, for those who seek one out Nose: Lemon peel, Conference pear and rhubarb and custard sweets lead, with tanned leather, sandalwood and a hint of earthy peat in support. With water, there’s grilled pineapple, marmalade, soft toffee and a hint of green cardamom add depth.

B and B-: Good and above average. The best of the mass market whiskeys fit in this category, as do the bulk of the premium brands. A B- is three stars.
