About this deal

Difference Panasonic cameras use different regions of the V-Log curve (red). The GH5 II uses the blue region, which sees it branded as V-Log L; matching the GH5 and 5S. But the it would still be cross-compatible if it used the larger region used by the BGH1. This new firmware enables GH5 tethered shooting via USB, using “LUMIX Tether” PC software. Users can control the camera by connecting it to a PC via USB. It lets you view the image on a large PC screen while shooting, which is helpful in commercial photoshoots of portraits, products and so on, where continuous confirmation is required. You can use [6K PHOTO] [4K PHOTO] and start and stop video recording with the tethered shooting. It is also possible to choose the folder to save the image files in the PC. For us, handheld run and gun shooting without a gimbal is just too chancy, and the Lumix GH5 II has done nothing to change our minds. The GH5 II's in-body stabilization system is rated as delivering up to 6.5EV of compensation, when measured using the CIPA standard test. This is 1.5EV more than the original GH5. Panasonic says this figure is maintained for longer focal length lenses with Dual IS 2 that synchronizes with the in-body system. New color modes Those who want to stream via an RTP/RTSP wired connection will have to wait for a promised firmware update, which will also add USB smartphone tethering. In a pinch the GH5 II, as with a lot of Panasonic cameras, can be used as a wired webcam using the company’s Lumix Webcam software, albeit with a resolution limited to 960p. Autofocus

When the time to get in the sleep mode is set to 3 sec. We took a look at Raw output in Adobe Lightroom Classic, our standard processor, and found them to be very editable. There's room to adjust highlights and shadows, and fine-tune color to taste, with much more flexibility than with JPGs. 10-bit 4K60 Recording Compact, lightweight, weatherproof and a joy to use at home or in the field, the GH5 II represents great value for money and is among the best beginner mirrorless cameras around. It’s got serious video chops, is strong on stills too, and is built to last. Panasonic doesn't include Raw recording via HDMI, something you get with the first-generation GH5 and the low-light specialist GH5s. We don't think it's a reason to skip upgrading. V-Log L offers plenty of room to edit, and you'll still be able to take advantage of more robust codecs like ProRes if you're recording to an external device. Micro Four Thirds for Video

Blurring the lines between stills and video

The GH5 II's body design doesn't stray too far from its predecessor. It's relatively compact, about 3.9 by 5.5 by 3.4 inches (HWD), but dense at 1.6 pounds. The magnesium body is protected from dust and splashes, so the GH5 II is as fit for location work as it is on a set.

The Lumix GH5 II is pretty big for a Micro Four Thirds camera. It’s as big as a mid-range DSLR and bigger than some full frame mirrorless cameras, notably Panasonic’s own Lumix S5, but this size makes the GH5 II very easy to get a good grip on, and it feels a natural fit with mid-sized lenses like the Leica 12-60mm we tested it with. As a result, the footage doesn't always look quite as sharp as its peers, but should be less susceptible to aliasing, which would be difficult to remove, where it occurs. As before, this is a very sensible, high quality result. Noticeably, the quality of the 60p footage is very similar to that of the 24p capture (with a touch more noise as a result of the faster shutter speed that's needed, meaning less light was captured, per frame). DR and Cinelike differences The GH5 II also gains the ARRI-style information panel display, first introduced in the GH5S. These changes to the interface and menus make it much easier to use a GH5 II in conjunction with a GH5S or S1H. BatteryThe new Panasonic GH5 Mark II looks a lot like the old GH5, but a great deal has changed that's not immediately obvious Records silky smooth 4K 60P/50P (QFHD 4K: 3840 x 2160/ MOV or MP4) video with internal 4: 2: 2 10 bit 4K video recording, Plus exclusive 6K photo and 4K post focus records photos up to 60Fps
