About this deal

They achieve this through many technologies they developed themselves and employ as needed based on the type of shoe. I did mention I had slight heel slippage, but with the material used, I don’t think that’ll translate to excessive wear. However, the refined shape of the midsole and toe box is not as accommodating for those with wide feet. The arch is higher which is great for those who suffer from plantar fasciitis who don’t necessarily want a stability shoe. From my perspective, the only thing Altra could do to further improve it would be to refine the upper so it is a little thinner and lighter.

The testers agree that the rubber and the shape performed well, giving runners a flexible and responsive ride. While the Escalante 3 should still be considered a light shoe, reviewers were slightly disappointed by the added heft.

If you aren’t used to low drop shoes then it’s advisable to gradually increase the time you spend in the shoes initially. With running harder there is a little too much flex to the material and I do get some heel translation. Whether it's for daily running, tempo days, biking, hiking, or even racewalking, the Altra Escalante 3 can handle it all. If Altra’s mission with the Escalante 3 was to make small improvements on previous versions while attempting to appeal to a broader audience, they succeeded.

Though the heel here is wider than many shoes, I had no issues with rubbing or slippage when running and I did not need to use a lace lock. David: " With 20 mm of cushioning, I felt plenty of protection from the road for most of my daily runs around 4 to 6 miles. The sole flaring is done pretty well in the forefoot and heel which do help with some stability elements. This shoe offers a natural shape and adequate cushion while aiming to be everything from casual wear to frequent use for daily running. David: The Altra Escalante is a low riding running shoe that has some cross over into daily wear as well.

When it comes to fit, the Altra Escalante 3 has shifted from very roomy to rather snug (save for the toe box), which is why we cannot recommend it to runners with wide feet. The only real complaint mentioned by one reviewer was that the shoe felt “sloppy” when they turned on the jets.

With its Zero Drop™ platforms, Innerflex™ grooved outsoles, and Altra Ego™ midsole, the Escalante 2. The Torin is a very protective neutral running shoe you can run short distances but it really protects you for the long haul. Review will indicate, the latest version of this comfortable running shoe is an excellent option for runners. The Altra Escalante 3 fits true to size if you like a snug fit, but some reviewers recommend going half size up from your regular size. The firmer Altra EGO midsole provides protection and responsiveness that I found missing in previous versions of the Escalante. While some stronger runners or zero-drop-only folks may be able to handle long distances in these shoes with ease, the sweet spot for me is around 6 to 10 kilometres. Our views are based on our extensive history in the footwear industry and years testing and developing footwear. I will point out, that people who were new to altra or even new to the Escalante, didn’t mind the changes and liked the shoe -but I think the update was too drastic and somewhat betrayed those who were og fans of the 1 or 1. On the upside, reviewers still found the shoe to be light, comfortable, responsive, secure, and durable.

If you like a lightweight, minimal shoe that’s built for speed but have always craved a bit of extra cushioning to put a bounce in your step, the Escalante 2. The Racers have a firm midsole which I like, they give me instant ground feedback and are pure joy to run in.

And it could serve as a gym shoe if cushion is your thing (I’d love to convince you to be barefoot in the gym, though). The laces are flat, do not stretch, and have sufficient length to secure the foot without any irritation on the dorsum of the foot.
