The Supreme Kai takes on Buu, but his mental techniques seem to have little to no effect on the pink Demon. Buu playfully enjoys himself by beating the tar out of the Supreme Kai. Piccolo hits both Raditz and Goku with his Special Beam Cannon, killing them both. Before he dies, Raditz reveals his two Saiyan partners, Vegeta and Nappa will arrive on Earth in one year. Piccolo then takes Gohan to train him, while Krillin is sent to tell Chi-Chi of the recent happenings. In the Other World, Goku is sent to King Kai to receive training in preparation for the Saiyans. In the FUNimation dub of the series, the original four sagas were furthered divided into a total of sixteen sagas: Vegeta Saga (Saiyan Saga), Namek Saga, Captain Ginyu Saga, Frieza Saga, Garlic Jr. Saga, Trunks Saga, Androids Saga, Imperfect Cell Saga, Perfect Cell Saga, Cell Games Saga, Great Saiyaman Saga, World Tournament Saga, Babidi Saga, Majin Buu Saga, Fusion Saga, and Kid Buu Saga.

The battle with the Saibamen continues, and Yamcha is killed when one of them self-destructs on him. An enraged Krillin kills the rest with one blast. Now, it's Nappa's turn. Gohan powers up to his full strength, and prepares to fight the mysterious Kibito. But before Gohan can move, Yamu and Spopovitch drain Gohan of his power and Shin reveals to be the Supreme Kai. The two energy thieves take off, and are closely followed by the Supreme Kai and the Z-Fighters. The Supreme Kai then tells them of a wizard called Bibidi who created a monster called Majin Buu. Majin Buu set about the complete destruction of the universe and Buu was then imprisoned in a powerful ball of energy. Before Bibidi could release Buu, he was killed by the Supreme Kai, but he has a son named Babidi who intends to resurrect Majin Buu, and continue his father's dream of ultimate destruction.

With time running out, Goku desperately awaits the arrival of the earthlings’ collective energy to vitalize the Spirit Bomb. But the energy isn’t coming! Why have the people of the Earth turned a deaf ear to Vegeta’s plea for help at this most critical hour? Dragon Ball Z is the second series in the Dragon Ball anime franchise. In Japan it ran from 1989-1996, and was an extremely popular show, spanning a total of 291 episodes. In the original Toei Animation production of the series in Japan, the series was divided into four major plot arcs known as sagas: Saiyan Saga, Frieza Saga, Cell Saga, and Buu Saga.

Gohan and Cell continue their fight, with Gohan realizing why his dad put him out. He wants him to get mad, so that his power will explode. Gohan then warns Cell and tells him about the times his hidden power erupted; Gohan alone, still 5 and a half years old, had weakened Raditz horribly. Only a year and a bit later, he had close to killed Frieza in his 2nd stage. But, Cell is not worried. He now has a new goal. To unleash Gohan's power, and have a real fight with Gohan. He begins to beat up Gohan even worse, but, Gohan is afraid of destroying Cell, and his real power will not show itself. takes down Vegeta. Trunks steps in to help. Tien and Piccolo try to join in, but are defeated by Android 17. 18 shatters Trunks' sword and defeats the two Super Saiyans. Now the androids set their sights on Goku's house. The Battle of the Buus begins as Majin Buu must fight his evil counterpart! The good Buu soon gets a taste of his own medicine when he is turned into chocolate! And when Evil Buu gobbles him up, a horrible transformation takes place! Who is this radical, new Majin Buu? The episodes were so heavily edited that while the first two seasons were comprised of 67 episodes in the Japanese dub, Funimation shortened the first two seasons to 53 episodes (or 56 episodes if the Tree of Might three parter is counted). These 53 episodes were also later redubbed by Funimation for TV broadcast, in addition to their DVD-only uncut dubs of the original 67 episodes.
