It really bothers me that they had to make a separate illustration of a white baby on a swing that it is not in the book to make it “acceptable”. I would like to know how they asked it to the illustrator: can you please draw a white baby for the cover? We love the baby on the swing but he is Asian, we can’t put him on the cover.. you understand.. Beautiful book that my 9 month old son loves as a bedtime story. Each time we come to the 'ten little fingers' and 'ten little toes' I wiggle his fingers & toes, which always gets a big smile. Mem Fox is Australia’s most highly regarded picture-book author. Her first book, Possum Magic, is the best selling children’s book ever in Australia, with sales of over three million. And in the USA Time for Bed and Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge have each sold over a million copies. Time for Bed is on Oprah’s list of the twenty best children’s books of all time. Mem has written thirty picture books for children and five non-fiction books for adults, including the best-selling Reading Magic, aimed at parents of very young children. It's not surprising that despite the different babies featured there's still a marked emphasis on white babies as the norm, which you can see as that's who's used to begin and end the story. My daughter is just 12 weeks old and really enjoyed this book, I enjoyed the way it flowed and we ended the story with kisses on her nose. This is such a beautiful book, Thomas seemed to really like the babies in this book. Highly recommended. It was fun to look at the pictures in this book! I saw all the babies, and my mom taught me how to use sign language to say "baby," so I practiced doing that.
