What you definitely will take from it, perhaps even more valuably, is a heightened sense of pleasure in the wonderful things that music can do. One of the strengths of the book is the large number of photographs depicting real-life traffic situations from throughout the whole of Sweden – from dense traffic on city streets to narrow country roads.

As you'd expect, the book breaks down the potentially thorny subject of music theory into easily digestible, bit-size chunks, with the help of plenty of clear, attractive diagrams and images. It featured advanced topics like quartal arpeggios, leaping intervals to create interesting solos, triads/arpeggios to ginger up phrasing, and much more. But although we think these apps can be really useful for some, there is no denying that a good-old-fashioned book will work better for others. Verdict: The Picture Chord Encyclopedia is a highly recommended addition to the learning toolkit of any serious or curious music theory student. The information is laid out in question format, so rather than learning screeds of text, you learn by answering questions (there are more than 700 questions in the book).Get all the theory test practice you need and track your progress with your own personal statistics tab.
