About this deal

Many thanks to the people out at Jetboil for the opportunity to test this product for the Trailspace Gear Review Corps! Personally, I’ve never had a Coleman fuel canister “fail” me–even in weather down to around 20°. If you’re camping in weather colder than that, you might consider an isobutane mix, or for complete peace of mind, use a liquid-feed system. Which JetBoil Fuel Works Best? When comparing fuel types, things get surprisingly complicated. I’ll try to summarize without getting too much into the boring details here.

In 2021, Jetboil released one of the most anticipated stoves on the market, the Jetboil Stash. The Stash is part minimalist canister stove, part integrated stove. As a result, the Jetboil Stash takes the best parts of both kinds of stoves. It’s lighter and more compact than any other integrated stove on the market, including our winner for integrated stove, the Jetboil Minimo. Yet, the Stash has the fuel efficiency of an integrated system. That’s one reason it almost immediately sold out after its release.

When placed in front of a desk fan in lab conditions for a five-boil test with Jetboil’s Jetpower 4-season fuel mix, the MightyMo averaged 3:32 to boil two cups of cold tap water. This is close to a minute slower than under calm conditions, rather impressive for a non-heat exchanger based system. One thing we absolutely loved about this stove: the unique folding design of the burner head. It folds down and, with its storage bag, will fit in the bottom of your fuel canister. Hands down one of the better innovations we’ve seen in stoves.

Still, there’s no better Jetboil out there for the fast and light crowd who prefer simpler meals out on the trail. It’s also worth mentioning that the Stash’s stove arms are plenty long enough to handle JetBoil’s larger pot options, so you can always work a second cook pot or pan into your rotation for serious cooking duty later on. Esbit stoves also have arguably the lightest weight fuel requirement and most efficiency per 1 L per burn. However, an Esbit stove can be difficult to light and often have a fishy odor. Additionally, solid fuel tablets can be difficult to find and take much longer to boil water than a gas stove. For a while, solid fuel stoves were allowed on Forest Service and Park Service land even when alcohol stoves were banned. Now that the loophole has been closed, I’m less enamored with Esbit stoves. Additionally, as fuel canister stove technology has gotten more efficient in burn time and weight, there are fewer reasons to use Esbit stoves. ALCOHOL STOVE

Also, keep in mind that the dependability of the MightyMo’s piezo ignitor will always be an issue. They rarely remain functional for long, so always carry a lighter or matches when using this stove (as you should have with you, anyway.) Weight Perry Dowst joined him in 2003 after they realized how popular their product would be among campers all over America! However, most people aren’t camping in temperatures cold enough to make a liquid-feed stove necessary (under 15°). If you want a stove which can adjust from roaring power to a gentle simmer, then the MightyMo is well worth considering The Jetboil MightyMo boiled 10 two-cup pots of tap water at an average of 2 minutes 36 seconds. Conditions were sunny, calm and 54 degrees F at an elevation of 5,778. We used a GSI Halulite Duo cook pot and a new canister of Jetboil’s Jetpower 4-season fuel.
