About this deal

While we have taken care in preparing this summary and believe it to be accurate, it is not a substitute for reading the product packaging and label prior to use. This product does not contain ingredients from the 9 major food groups considered as allergenic (milk, eggs, soybean, wheat, sesame, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, and shellfish) under the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA). But Sainsbury’s juice tasted the closest to eating an actual orange, with a really fresh flavour and no synthetic aftertaste. Asda’s offering was very sharp and quite acidic, leaving behind that tingly feeling on your tongue you get when you eat too much pineapple. I’ve had plenty of orange juice in my 24 years and have never really once stopped to be mindful of the flavour, mouthfeel or acidity of it.

Susan Jebb, now head of the Food Standards Agency, has gone on record to say that she doesn’t think it should count as one of your five-a-day fruit and vegetable quota. Tesco’s orange juice was the deepest in colour, and felt quite thick and syrupy in comparison to the rest, while Aldi’s felt as though it was the wateriest, but weighed in with the highest sugar content at 18 per cent. There was nothing unpleasant about Morrison’s juice, but it was lighter in colour compared to the rest, but still didn’t quite match up to Tropicana in terms of flavour. Does Orange Juice Go Bad? - Insanely Good Recipes Does Orange Juice Go Bad? - Insanely Good Recipes

It was only in the 20th century that the fashion for drinking orange juice for breakfast took off, after a glut in orange production in Florida and California led to producers looking for a way to increase demand. Of the three main kinds of orange juice available, the cheapest is “from concentrate” – juice that has been concentrated by evaporating out the water with a combination of heat and low pressure. This might include changes to allergy advice, ingredient lists, nutritional guides or dietary advice.

On the upside, it is, even in processed form, a decent source of vitamin C: humans, unusually for mammals, lack the enzyme to convert glucose to vitamin C. Yale University Press) it’s also probably a function of “flavour packs” – orange extract that is added back into orange juice after processing to make up for volatile flavours which have gone missing in action. Aside from the unpleasant taste and odor, it is very unsafe to consume orange juice that’s gone bad.

This is because orange juice oxidizes over time, which will cause microorganisms to infiltrate the juice. But it’s better if you consume it within four months, because its flavor will start to deteriorate after that.

The flavour is nice and gentle, mild and pleasant in a way that is reminiscent of actual fresh orange juice. Persuading us that a glass of juice, containing not one but two or more oranges, was a healthy way to start the day was a no-brainer from a sales point of view. Based on my own (not scientific) experiment, a medium (200g) orange yields about 95ml of juice – plus the peels, which can be dried out on the radiator making the house smell gorgeous.
