About this deal

Potted olive trees are naturally small and slow-growing, making them well-suited for container growing. However, they still need plenty of room for their roots to spread and grow. For this reason, choose a container that is large enough to accommodate their growth and provide good drainage. I always recommend choosing a container at least twice the size of the tree’s root ball. Prune out the weakest of crossing olive branches and closely growing parallel branches. Also, remove branches growing toward the center, strongly growing upright branches, and water sprouts.

Reduce watering frequency as temperatures cool. Continue to let the top inch of soil dry out between waterings. Avoid leaving stubs: Long stubs can be unsightly and slow to heal. If you need to remove a branch, try to cut it as close to the branch collar as possible.

We’ve established that Olive trees don’t like wet or overly damp conditions. Whether you’ve re-potted your tree or you’ve planted it in the ground, free drainage is essential. During the summer, your Olive tree will only need watering in small amounts.

Since water shoots appear during tree growth throughout the year, they can be pruned on the spot at any time. Here are the steps: Olive trees have lovely silver leaves, which will compliment many other plantings of the garden but are also grown for their fruit. The olive tree’s fruit can be pressed for oil or cured (brined) and eaten.Favoured by climate warming, several small-scale olive production farms have also been established at fairly high latitudes in Europe and North America since the early 21st century. [45] [46] [47] [48] Like most evergreen trees Olives respond very well to pruning, in fact the more you prune, the happier they grow. It is best, however, to prune your Olive after the last of the winter frost ( March onwards) and before the first autumn frosts ( late October early November)
