As you can see in our photo the small indentation at the top allows you to fill it with small oreos, cream and a nut, or fruit, or chocolate creams and small crispy biscuits. Both these arcades are now home to some of London’s best food outlets including Mama Lan, family-run KaoSarn, and Bellantoni’s. But, very helpfully, everything was labelled and there was a handy set of instructions to guide you through the meal – it made sure that we could eat the starter without worrying about the oven. The ravioli were really good and the sauce incredibly rich and delicious, but, not advertised on the menu, was a crumb of biscuit so it was incredibly sweet. There was enough to save for lunch the next day – definitely microwaveable and a feast on these cold, rainy days.The Brixton Village team works hard to offer a rich program for everyone that fosters new ideas and conversations, and builds memorable shared experiences through educational and engaging events, whilst reflecting the vibrancy and history of the community and the neighbourhood. We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. It may also be noisy but we chose a Saturday lunchtime and it was virtually empty – not for long I am sure. This program sees an artist welcomed into the Village family for a 6-18 month residency as they develop their creative offer, and host events and exhibitions along the way.

The black pasta with mussels was fantastic – salt might be added as the only salt is the anchovy in the sauce – but that is a little niggle.
The crab bun arrived first, cut in half so it wasn’t just easy to eat but with an expectation of sharing. The covered arcades have always been in private ownership, although substantial public funding was provided for their refurbishment under the Brixton Challenge grant scheme.

The market is an indoor and outdoor space, offering a huge variety of international cuisine with a focus on Afro-Caribbean, due to the large local community that has settled in Brixton since 1948. In late 2018 I was approached by a PR representing the property company that had recently bought Brixton Village and Market Row, two covered markets in the heart of my corner of south London. The proceeds go towards the upkeep of dogs and cats in their kennels in Great Yarmouth who are waiting for their forever homes. In normal times I rarely review on my own doorstep, despite the many terrific possibilities that are stacked up around me. We knew, as a premium brand, we wanted to reflect the Caribbean heritage of their base liquid, while also moving away from traditional rum branding for shelf standout and differentiation.Owner Etta is possibly the only restaurateur in Brixton who can say she has been a local resident for more than 40 years. With convenient parking and 25 distinct units, you are sure to find your place in these urban-chic spaces.

You will have plenty of free time to relax but also some awesome activities to experience the rainforest and the caribbean sea. In August last year, Hondo Enterprises claimed to have ‘saved’ Brixton’s Club 414, which was news to the club’s owners, Tony Pommell and Louise Barron, who had found themselves being kicked out into the street in May 2019.
We have tried to get a table by just dropping by and didn’t have any luck so this time we booked online for lunch. It is then infused with Kenyan black tea, Nigerian hibiscus and South Asian red rose petals – vibrant, interesting and unique botanicals inspired by Brixton Market and Market Row.
