God only gives us good things, and He only does good things. If God doesn’t give us something, that means that it wouldn’t be the best thing for us. He wants to give us something better. So, if you ask, you will receive.

We can count on him to give us, not always what we want or think we need, but what we really do need. The gifts that he gives are the best that can be given. We may not always recognize them as what we really need. But he knows us better than we do ourselves. He knows his plans for us and what we need to be prepared for them.
