About this deal

The BenQ TK800 3D DLP projector offers the best overall performance with both 3D and 2D content. The projector has excellent, bright room performance with 3,000 lumens of lamp brightness. This is plenty of brightness for use in rooms with any kind of ambient light. The TK800 projector also offers excellent colors that are vivid and accurate, with 92% Rec. 709 color space. The picture is also incredibly detailed, with both 4K ultra HD resolution and 1080p resolution when in 3D mode. Be aware that you might experience some rainbow effects with this BenQ DLP HD projector, due to its 4K color wheel, but it is minimal overall. Although, you may want to take a look at our BenQ HT3050 3D DLP home theater projector review before ruling out any other BenQ models. And another issue is the light leakage around the image. Because the masked area around the projection isn’t entirely light free, creating a slightly dark grey frame bounding the projection.

The BenQ TK800 is an excellent looking and extremely versatile home theater projector that ranks among the best we’ve tested. Is there a better alternative? Despite not actually using a native 4K panel it’s still capable of highly detailed images, and is also very bright – making it perfect for less than ideal conditions such as a room with white walls or big windows. Also expect excellent motion handling, which is great for gaming, and it has a low input lag which is also good news for gamers. (The BenQ even supports 3D, although you will need to buy the glasses separately.) TK800’s aluminum driver diaphragm performs the pure vocals and delicate details in mid- and high frequencies. Like 2D projectors, 3D projectors are built using display technologies such as DLP and 3LCD. However, 3D projectors receive and project a different data stream type in a variety of formats. A 1.2× optical zoom makes the projector very easy to place. We enjoyed this feature, as it enabled us to place the projector a bit closer to the screen in our cramped basement — we got a 100-inch, 16:9 picture at a little over 12 feet from the screen. It’s worth noting that there is no vertical or horizontal lens shifting, image adjustment is limited to three rubber feet (one on the front and two on the rear) of the projector for anyone not mounting the projector.

The Epson Home Cinema 5040UB really shines, though, in its overall adjustable. The glass lens is built to enhance 4K performance and offers a whopping 2.1x optical zoom range. You’ll also get a motorized lens shift for both horizontal and vertical directions. The projector also features vertical keystone correction. With all of these adjustability options, you’ll be able to get the most precise picture possible for a much easier installation process. The projector has a couple of different modes, too, like most projectors. But the Fast mode was the only disappointing mode, which doesn’t decrease input lag for gaming, so it seems kind of pointless. Compare this to the best ceiling-mounted projector that easily inverts the screen for ceiling orientation directly from the menu. The Sony VPL-HW45ES is one of the more high-end 3D projectors you can buy, and it really shows in the overall design and build quality. For starters, this is also one of the quietest projectors out there at only 22 decibels, with a unique front-facing fan design that allows you to install the projector nearly flush with the wall without having to worry about exhaust problems. This attention to detail is also present throughout the entire projector. It features a wide, 1.6x optical zoom and both horizontal and vertical lens shifts for flexible installation.

In terms of long-term ownership and maintenance, the TK800 doesn’t come with an extra lamp, but the included lamp is rated to 4,000 hours in full lamp mode and 15,000 hours in “SmartEco” mode, which adjusts the brightness of the lamp based on image content to save lamp life. That’s less than the standard hours offered by the HT2550, but understandable given how much brighter the TK800 is. In any case, you’ll probably get years of screen time before you need to consider lamp replacement. Performance What what you’re more likely to notice is the fan noise which, when combined with the sound of the colour wheel whizzing around, can get quite loud. There’s no way around this: the brighter the bulb, the more heat it produces, and the more cooling is required. As you’re searching for a good 3D projector, passive 3D technology is hard to find, since it usually involves dual projector setups and expensive silver screens. Upgraded with dramatically wider frequency range from powerful 5-watt audio housed in a resonant sound chamber for deep bass and soaring highs. BenQ CinemaMaster Audio+ 2 technology provides custom-tuned sound modes to deliver ideal audiovisual experiences for any type of entertainment, as if you were there live.
