About this deal

Angelina Mouseling (voiced by Finty Williams) is a helpful, feisty, quiet, and soft-voiced little white dancing mouse who loves to dance and always dreams of becoming a famous prima ballerina. Angelina has the tendency to come off as rather hot-headed, but she ultimately means well. I first heard of Angelina Ballerina by Katharine Holabird through the animated series. We were in Bend, Oregon on a trip. Harriet was getting over a stomach bug and I was coming down with one. We were holed up in our hotel room eating take out and watching kids television. Harriet was just learning to walk at the time. I don't know if her first exposure to Angelina Ballerina made any lasting impression or not. I understand that Angelina has a dream and nothing will stop her, even her parents, even the rules. I just don't see how this is a nice lesson or story for children. It's almost saying don't pay any attention to the people around you, behave selfishly, and you will eventually push them to give you what they want. This story would have been better if her parents had taught her to have respect for her family and for the property of others and if she had learned all of these things, perhaps they would be able to help her begin to dance. Angelina was literally my favorite book when I was little, and one of the earliest books I can remember being read to me/reading myself once I learned how. I was obsessed, and even had a pink tutu just like hers. 💖

I found Angelina Ballerina to be a very heartwarming book. I loved that her parents helped and encouraged Angelina to follow her dreams of being a ballerina. I also liked that in the end, she did achieve her original goal because it is inspiring for the young readers.

Angelina Ballerina: The Gift and Other Stories (2001, UK/2003, US) (The Gift, Angelina in the Wings, Arthur the Butterfly, The Costume Ball, Miss Lilly is Leaving) Angelina finds and takes care of an injured butterfly she calls Arthur. Angelina traps Arthur inside a glass jar, and then Henry releases him. Later on, Angelina and Henry get trapped in a dark a hole, but Arthur summons help for them. Personal Response: This book has both beautiful illustrations and a great story line. The illustrations are captivating and very well done. The story line and lesson is great too and it shows children that if they work hard enough at something they really want, they will get it. It also inspires them to follow their dreams and not give up. William wants to be part of Sammy's club. He gains acceptance when Sammy is in need of a new trolley from Mr. Longtail. He ends up letting Angelina and Miss Lilly down, but his and Sammy's lot make up for it.Revisiting this book as an adult was utterly lovely, and left me feeling bubbly-happy. The art was just as warm and charming as I remember, and I now know why I developed such an affection for The Sugarplum Fairy (Angelina’s dream sequence). I love this book just as much, if not more, than I did as a little girl. I actually didn’t remember the ending, and it was such a great surprise when I realized what it was! I think that’s an ending long-time lovers of this book can appreciate even more as an adult!

Fast forward two and a half years to Harriet being in preschool. She started taking a dance class that teaches both tap and ballet. She loves her dancing class and even participated in the recital. She'll be doing that again this year. Angelina Ballerina remains just as special of a book to me as it was when I was a child. My life-long love for this book is absolutely solidified and strengthened. 💕 The illustrations are still from Helen Craig and carry the love and emotion as Angelina Ballerina deserves. A little more traditional, they carry a beauty which is often no longer found in picture books and is sure to entice young listeners. I, myself, enjoyed flipping through them a few times and simply enjoying Angelina's story that way.

After she gets her brand new gear, Angelina attends dance class and is more responsible at home. She eventually becomes a famous ballerina. Angelina wants Miss Lilly to be dedicated as Mouse of the Year. Miss Lilly gets so preoccupied with preparations for the award, that her dance class is in disarray. Things come to a head when the princesses' and Angelina's demands become overwhelming. However, the sisters realise their mistakes and make it up to Angelina and the rest of the dance class. The show commences wonderfully with a surprise appearance of Princess Phoebe.Angelina Ballerina: The Magic of Dance (William the Conjurer, Angelina and Grandma, Miss Lilly Comes to Dinner, Angelina's Valentine) Angelina and her friends start up a film based on Thomasina Tuttle, using Doctor Tuttle's video camera. The classes lead to her being extremely happy and working hard in all things-cleaning, helping her mom and of course, ballet! She works hard to achieve her goal of becoming a famous ballerina.
