Out of the box, the sound is nicely bass-heavy with a reasonably wide soundstage. It’s able to take full advantage of the PS5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech, one of the console’s flagship features that situates sounds in an immersive 360-degree space around your ears. Maxwell uses an All-New Reinforced Chassis Built with Aluminum yokes, spring steel headband, and glass infused nylon for other structural parts including the cups. It feels great too. We’ve used enough headsets over the years to understand that tactility in both hand and on head are extremely important to any headset and again, Maxwell excels. Of course it is heavy, and at times in-use scenarios amplify that weight but it always feels comfortable. Much of the reasoning behind that will be down to the suspension styled leather inner headband, keeping your skull away from the less flexible outer parts. And with simple pop-on, pop-off adjustability, getting a decent fit is easy.

Maxwell is built on an all-new premium chassis including aluminum yokes and a spring steel headband for durability. Play in comfort, all day, all night with the deluxe contoured earpads and replaceable suspension strap. Shut out the world around you with class-leading passive noise reduction from the reinforced dual-chamber earcups. Once I had the headset’s EQ sorted out, listening to music on the Maxwell was a pleasure. It did a great job of producing full-bodied, clean-sounding bass in Knife Party’s Boss Mode and maintaining the power of the low beat in Kaskade’s POW POW POW without getting too muddy. In K-391’s Lonely World, vocals and sustained mids sounded full and balanced (again, once I adjusted the EQ — the mids are a little recessed out of the box). Microphone of the Maxwell The Maxwell has four connectivity options: 2.4GHz wireless, Bluetooth 5.3, wired via USB-C, and analog. While the headset can connect to both 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth 5.3 at the same time, it can’t play audio from both wireless sources simultaneously, like the Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless XT or the Logitech G735 can. It can, however, play dual-source audio simultaneously provided one of the sources is wired — e.g., it can play audio simultaneously over an analog connection and Bluetooth. It’s an active headset with an internal DSP and a built-in DAC, so it will need to be powered on even if you’re using a wired analog connection.The Audeze Maxwell Wireless are impressive planar magnetic gaming headphones. They're also some of the best gaming headphones we've tested to date. When we published our review on April 24th, 2023, we observed the conversation surrounding our review, including Audeze's public response to our measurements, which caused doubt in our results. However, after reviewing all the comments, we launched an extensive investigation; our goal wasn't to prove that our measurements were correct but to find out how this product truly performs. The bass is boomy when it needs to be and the sub-bass is colossal. Gunshots, explosions & footsteps are more realistic than ever before. There are actual textural details that can be heard (and felt!) with said impacts, explosions and things such as your character interacting with inanimate objects. Though I haven’t used this headset for that many hours, what I can tell you is that I’ve been testing it for about a week now, and I have yet to charge it again. Audeze Maxwell: Price & availability If you’re after excellent audio quality but would rather be wired to your PS5, consider the EPOS H6Pro. With a wide soundstage and even range, anything you throw at this headset – from lush orchestras to the multi-layered audio effects – sounds pretty darn excellent. The microphone is loud and clear, too, although tends to accentuate the highs of your voice. In short:Game/Chat balance is simply done by adjusting the lower wheel (chat/communication wheel) up and down. Mic gain is now automatically controlled (adjusts microphone volume automatically).

We've added a link to our response to Audeze in the review introduction. Following our investigation, we have retested Imaging, non-Bluetooth Wireless, and Wired. This has changed the 'Non-BT Latency' and 'Analog/USB Audio Latency' values, and we have updated our review.Away from competitive gaming and into the wonderful world (and surroundings) of Hogwarts, my mind was shattered into pieces. I do not normally play single player games with a headset. But naturally I had to give it a go with the Maxwell. The music from the 4 different vivariums was literally flowing through me. When I turned my character in a different direction in a dungeon and heard something behind me, I had the urge to look behind me IRL. In two words: Absolutely captivating.
