If you’re hauling a big camper, you need to think about driver visibility, indicating the presence of the load, and – when you reach your destination –the safety of you and your possessions. The Vision S system is built to contribute in every aspect with a selection of cameras; not just the rear Sharkfin with 120-degree visibility but side cameras with 65-degree visibility and amber marker lights. These can be installed in place of existing lights, cutting down on installation effort – ideally at the front on either side to give a view of the blind spot. Finally, a doorway camera is included which affords a better view of visitors – welcome or otherwise. For the comfort dash, I routed the cable just under the passenger side footwell cover which is very easy to remove. Went up the A piller from there. I removed the ceiling panels to access the main rear wire bundle which runs down the passenger side and ran the rear camera cable alongside this. The hardest part of the install is getting the rear light cable through the rubber tailgate cable access. A long wire feed rod was very helpful. I then drilled a small hole in the top of the inside of the tailgate to pull the cable through. Again the wire feed rod was invaluable here. Along the bottom edge, there is a power button. You can choose to turn off the mirror and use it as a traditional mirror.

Yada actually provides a good range of choices when it comes to monitors, from 2.4-inch options for suction mounting through 3.5 and 4.3 all the way up to this 5-inch. That goes to emphasize the fact that, while the size is important, it’s more to do with the space in your vehicle than the viewing experience. If you have a big-ish family car, 5 inches (plus bezel) won’t obscure too much of your forward view so it’s a good choice. We touched on this at the top, but being limited to 1080p isn't a problem for day-to-day use with the V5. When it comes to what you see on the rear-view mounted display, you wouldn't see a higher resolution anyway. When it comes to recorded files, they looked fine and I can't think of many ways in which higher-resolution would have helped. Now to complain about the grounding wire. Yeah, the simple grounding wire. I spent as much time trying to attach the grounding wire as the rest of the installation. LOL. The bolts to attach the grounding wire are under the dash by the fuse box. I can only get one hand in there. The clip on the grounding wire was too small for any of my bolts and I would have to have one hand holding it while I used the other hand to tighten the bolt.

My first thought when opening up the box is that there were far too many bits and pieces for a single dashcam, even considering the front and rear cameras. There were two cameras, of course, but also a number of other dongles and accessories. Installing the rear camera can be a much more involved process than the front camera. But if you're not sure you want to get tied up in this process, it's also completely optional. You can always start with the front camera to get used to it and then add the rear camera later on. In the 2nd pic you can see a plug still connected. That's for the rain sensor. The wire dangling down is the plug for the mirror sensor which is for auto dip main beam I believe which I could live without or maybe I could retrofit to the V5 pro? For sum reason the button i saying beep as are the rest but no action on that button not even after resetting and reformating I went for an easier install for the rear camera, keeping it inside the vehicle but it works really well there and still has great field of view. Also I didn't connect it up to the rear light cluster. Its just a 2 finger swipe on the screen to activate it. The unit automatically records by default, though you can also stop and start recording at any time. This is especially useful if you're parked but still want to record. If your car has a screen, especially an aftermarket head unit, then your camera can be displayed on that. If you have an original (OEM) monitor, or none at all, you’ll likely need a separate monitor. Separate monitors might take the form of stand-alone items you can attach to your windshield or dash. Some of our favorites are integrated into a rear-view mirror. A screen isn't much use in your vehicle if you can't actually see it. The AUTO-VOX V5 has no problems in that department. Despite the mirrored finish, it has no problems with glare. The rear-view camera can operate in low-light environments, and with IP68 grade weather protection shouldn’t struggle with the great outdoors. It does, however, have a narrower field of view than some, but this is a matter of taste; this also means it side-steps any fish-eye distortion. Thank you Auto-Vox and to all those who had a hand in it from creation, design, software, hardware, technical support, and customer service for providing an exceptional product.There is also a “driving mode” where the mirror functions as a regular mirror and your current speed is displayed with a digital image of a car. I didn’t see much value in that.
