The company has revealed four new pastel coloured Joy-Con controllers that will be sold as two new Joy-Con pairs: Pastel Pink/Pastel Yellow and Pastel Purple/Pastel Green. Each pair will be released on 30th June 2023. Both left and right Joy-Cons contain fixed 3.7V 525mAh 1.9W lithium-ion polymer batteries. These can be charged by attaching to the Nintendo Switch and leaving it in charging (sleep) mode. They can also be charged on the separate grip. Fully charged batteries give up to 20 hours of play. When operated wirelessly, the Joy-Con units communicate with each other and the console via Bluetooth.

Though perhaps most reminiscent of the limited edition Animal Crossing Joy-Cons, the new colours are completely brand new and have never been released before. Launch colours of the Joy-Con were slate grey or neon red for the right unit and neon blue for the left unit. Neon yellow, neon green, neon pink, neon red, neon purple and light brown were among colours added later usually to coordinate with the colour schemes of newly released Nintendo games. The closest we've had to a 'pastel' coloured Joy-Con set were part of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons themed Nintendo Swich console. The ACNH Switch edition included a similar mint green Joy-Con, but was still pretty bright compared to these new pastel hues. The ACNH Switch console also sold out incredibly fast in the UK, so these new Joy-Con pairs are perfect for those who either missed out, or if you're not really a fan of Nintendo's more vibrant Joy-Con colour combinations.In principle, both Joy-Cons can be used separately as completely independent controllers. This is where the Strap comes into play. This is pushed onto the controllers not only providing them with better ergonomics and more grip, but also two shoulder buttons and a hand loop in case you really get into your game. Thus, a controller part becomes a stand-alone controller. Nintendo unironically call this "Sharing the Joy". Cringe. In terms of aesthetics, the Joy-Con and the Joy-Con Strap will be available not only in the standard gray, but also in the colours neon blue and neon red for a Splatoon 2 theme, as well as neon yellow and green.
