Similar to Genki, there's a heavy emphasis placed on grammar in Quartet. Following the reading section, there are usually about ten different grammar points that appear in the text explained in more detail. The explanations are often fairly slim, but do a good job of not only conveying how the grammar structure was employed in the text, but other uses for it. This is done through the usage of multiple example sentences, all of which help to build a thorough understanding of the point discussed. Additionally, these explanations are some of the only places in the textbook where English is used.QUARTET is a comprehensive intermediate learning resource for Japanese-language learners who have completed the elementary level. Overall, Quartet is a really nice stepping stone after Genki, with volume I being an easier transition into intermediate-level material than Tobira. There's very little hand-holding here like you might be used to if you’re coming from Genki, as the book is almost entirely in Japanese aside from the grammar explanations, similar to Tobira. But once you get acclimated to this, it becomes one of the primary strengths of the book, allowing a learner to practice their comprehension skills in a natural manner across all four domains. Quartet is actually a brilliant study of how four disparate characters with a common purpose, i.e. to become a successful string quartet, learn to overcome their differences and reveal their secrets to become a harmonious and emotionally interdependent little group. So much so that it begins to seem that life as an albeit celibate group of four seems to trounce hands down the dull conventionality of being in a couple. There was the welcome return recently for the first time in three years for the Japan Brass Band Ensemble National Championship. Quartet ( カルテット, Karutetto) is a Japanese television drama, broadcast from January 2017 to March 2017 on the TBS television network. It stars Takako Matsu, Hikari Mitsushima, Issei Takahashi, and Ryuhei Matsuda. The speaking sections of Quartet are a little longer than the writing sections. Here, Quartet offers a series of questions and prompts for learners to act out with their classmates or a teacher. Additionally, there are some vocabulary or grammar points Quartet calls attention to with a brief explanation and some example sentences, but unlike in the reading sections, these explanations are all in Japanese.

For my part, I really enjoyed working through the reading sections specifically, and learning new words and grammar through context. The speaking, listening, and writing sections also provided a nice framework to help ground my study and keep it consistent. the characters- perfectly imperfect, and quirky. Their interactions with each other made each episode special. QUARTET is divided into two textbook volumes. Volume I presents Lessons 1–6, and Volume II covers Lessons 7–12. The material in Volume I is roughly equivalent to level N3 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, while that in Volume II is on par with N2. As an intermediate Japanese learner who was looking for a smooth transition into more advanced resources after finishing Genki II, Quartet ended up being the perfect textbook series for me.
