About this deal

If this is the case, then it’s likely that someone, such as a qualified engineer, should take a look at it to help it run in good condition again and to assure that it isn’t dangerous. If the gas valve is defective, can my boiler be dangerous? TIP: If you’re in any doubt, or it’s not an easy fix such as low pressure or a frozen condensate, DO NOT try to fix the boiler yourself – always call a professional Gas Safe registered heating engineer. About Ideal boilers The PCB controls the gas valve and other electronic components of your boiler. It responds to your changing the thermostat or turning on taps. If the water is leaking below your boiler, I’m afraid it’s probably bad news, as this boiler is prone to leaking when there’s a split heat exchanger. A Gas Safe engineer can help you determine if it is true. To determine the cause, they will inspect the fan and flue. Incorrect Gas Pressure

We’ve mentioned that not all boiler faults can be fixed immediately. If they are any good, the heating engineer should also test any other parts of the boiler if they suspect a fault. It might appear that the gas valve is not responding or is shutting down, but this could be caused by the PCB’s signals.

The IDEAL 175562 GAS VALVE KIT is a genuine, brand new Ideal Domestic Boiler Spares product, covered by a Ideal Domestic Boiler Spares manufacturer's guarantee. The flue is the large white pipe that comes out of your boiler and is where the fan pushes out toxic gases, either horizontally from the side of your house, or vertically from the roof. The Fix: This is a cylinderical burner with the ignition and flame sensor underneath. The problem occurs when dirt and carbon build up on the ignition and flame sensor probes, and the boiler must be stripped down so these can be cleaned. Common Fault 2: Boiler is leaking water Your boiler’s PCB will want to know if the fan is operating before anything else happens. The fan in your boiler is what pushes dangerous gases out of your flue. The fan will not turn on if the air pressure switch is not working. If this happens, the PCB will relay the information to the boiler, and it will shut off. As the f2 fault most often involves an issue with the gas supply or parts within the boiler unit, it’s unlikely you will be able to fix the problem legally and safely.

For the boiler’s flame to remain lit, fuel needs to be travelling at a sufficient force and speed from the mains to the burner. Again, this is a common fault with Ideal Isar and Icos boilers, and can be really quite startling. This is similar to the problem mentioned above with the Ideal Response, as the sensors have failed and the boiler did not light on the first or second attempt – however, on the third attempt there happened to be a lot of gas in the chamber which causes explosive ignition. If your boiler was recently installed or had repairs, the fan could have been set at the wrong speed for your system. This would prevent it from venting flue gases. The valve opens when gas is needed, such as when hot taps are turned on, and closes when no gas is needed.

This means that the boiler failed to ignite the flame necessary to heat the water for another reason. This is not the same as an L2 fault. This means that the boiler was unable to ignite the flame. If it cannot confirm a stage, such as the flame being lit, it will stop the boiler from working and show a fault code.

An engineer will service your house’s gas supply to determine where the pressure drop is occurring. They may advise that the issue is with your supplier, in which case they won’t be able to fix this. The multi-meter can be used to test the PCB, just like the gas valve. This can be the cause of the problem if there is a problem with power or communication with the PCB. The problem may not only be with the gas valve, but also with the PCB. The fan is wired up to the PCB to enable the transmission of signals between the parts. The wiring may become damaged or loose through vibrations in the boiler, preventing the PCB from confirming if the fan is working properly. These are usually referred to as ‘flue gases’ and the fan blows them down the ‘flue pipe’, which travels away from the boiler and out of your home.

It houses the printed circuit board (PCB), which acts as the control center for your boiler. Before the next stage can begin, each stage must be confirmed. It’s possible that someone may have attempted to fix a gas valve problem before. This could be the reason for the fault if the valve adjustment was not the problem and the person failed to fix it.
