About this deal

Internet connection required. Subscriptions and data costs may apply. Content, features and third party services will vary from time to time without notice. Compatible controller required, sold separately. Filmmaker mode (as well as ISF Expert, Game Optimizer and HDR Cinema) does come with one caveat, though: you don’t get LG’s TruMotion feature, which increases sharpness, smoothness, and reduces judder in fast-moving scenes. In a 24p movie, four frames are artificially created in between the original frames, increasing the frame count to 120. Percentage Luminance drop at 35 degree horizontal angle from the centre of the screen with 50% white output The Filmmaker mode offers highly accurate images for HDR10 and HLG, while the Cinema mode does the same for Dolby Vision, and Cinema Home offers Dolby Vision IQ with Precision Detail. LG claims it is the only manufacturer that currently has sufficient processing power to offer this additional feature, which pulls out greater contrast and detail from Dolby Vision content. Moving onto a regular 4K stream of Spider-Man 2 on Netflix gave us the chance to try out the TV’s native viewing modes. While the contrast levels are a little less pronounced than they are with Dolby Vision content, you’re still getting the benefit of the OLED panel’s self-emitting pixels and the picture looks very clear and bright as a result.

Your window to a bright new world.

Concerns about image retention or burn-in are mitigated by a Screensaver mode that ensures no static images are left on the screen. Other measures include Screen Move (which shifts pixels slightly), changing how bright on-screen logos appear and general maintenance. Picture Quality It was easy enough to circumvent the issue by heading to the app store via the Home Dashboard or through voice control, but there remained a few niggles such as not being able to update apps in the app store – although opening apps with voice control led to them automatically updating themselves. Aside from a forum post, I haven’t seen the issue mentioned elsewhere. LG's 2022 TVs come with the new webOS 22 operating system. It’s not a substantial departure from 2021's webOS 6.0, which somewhat controversially moved from a pop-up row of options to a full-screen interface, but LG has sought to improve personalisation and recommendations, most notably through the addition of discrete user profiles. LG has spent the last few years improving the motion handling of its OLED TVs, and this area of the C2’s performance is excellent. The TruMotion menu offers five different options: Off, Cinematic Movement, Natural, Smooth Movement, and User Selection. Anyone particularly susceptible to the effects of motion smoothing on film-based content will want to turn TruMotion off (or select Filmmaker Mode), but others will enjoy experimenting with the different settings.

That’s not an issue if you want a really naturalistic viewing experience, but for really seamless cinematic viewing, you’ll need to use Cinema or HDR Cinema Home. Otherwise, you could opt for the Sports mode, which delivers the smoothest motion of all - ideal for focussing on speedy players zooming around a pitch. The connections are all located down the left-hand side as you face the screen and include four full-fat 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 inputs that support 4K at 120Hz, HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), and eARC in the case of input number two. The other modes are much more inoffensive. Standard and Eco give you an anytime viewing mode that looks decent enough for most types of content (although very colorful scenes did look overly noisy). Cinema mode looked softer by comparison, adding in an extra level of detail and smooth movements that suit fast-paced scenes. You have support for HDR, HDR10 Pro, HLG and Dolby Vision - the only notable omission is HDR10+. However, with most streaming services offering titles in Dolby Vision, you probably won’t miss it. To test the LG C2 we used Portrait Displays Calman colour calibration software. LG C2 OLED review: Gaming The C2’s stand weighs less, too (45% less according to LG), with the combined weight of the TV and stand at 16.5kg. Assembly is a shade simpler, too: taking it out the box to turning it on took less than 10 minutes. This second scene is in fact lifted just a touch across the board, though we’re talking fine margins. Detail levels are a little higher, with the C2 digging up even more of Bond’s characterful skin blemishes as he watches Madeleine swim. There’s slightly more cool purity to whites, too, which should appeal to those who favour the sort of neutral colour balance typically offered by a Standard mode.
