Behind-the-Scenes Documentary (HD/SD, 59 minutes): Divided into two chapters, "It's All Connected" and "The HDMI cable - use this to connect your PVR to your TV to display channels and recorded shows from your PVR. Before we get into the testing, it’s worth looking at the specifications for Blu-ray and streaming services. On paper, Blu-ray is certainly the quality winner, with the standard supporting video encoded using H.264 at a resolution of 1,920×1,080, delivered at a bit-rate of up to 40Mbit/s.

Both films are certainly worth a look for horror fans, but FRIGHTMARE’s presentation and the fact that the film feels more polished gives it the edge over FLESH AND BLOOD. In any case, it’s great to see these films on Blu-Ray, and we’ll be eagerly waiting for the next batch of releases Redemption brings to the new format. @Paul Freitag-FeyThe most recent releases to have received the Blu-Ray treatment are 1972’s THE FLESH AND BLOOD SHOW and 1974’s FRIGHTMARE, and while the pair are only two years apart, the difference between the two in terms of genre familiarity seems much larger. Both, however, are worth a look, especially in a form that makes up for years of sub-par presentations and allows them to be seen with all of the garish colors and carefully-lit shadows that Walker and cinematographer Peter Jessop intended. Now, let me be clear: I am thrilled filmmaking has moved away from actors feeling they should risk their lives for one incredible shot. Yeoh’s most recent hit — Everything Everywhere All at Once — shows a good action movie can be made in humane fashion. But I also carry a conflicting respect for this astonishing stunt work. Barbie is the biggest movie of the year, obliterating box office records and the minds of men’s rights podcast hosts. The theatrical run benefited from the Barbenheimer phenomenon, along with friend groups who dressed up for the film like an event, not just another movie. But read: None of that is necessary to enjoy Barbie, a film that’s just as delightful alone at home as it is with a crowd. There comes a time in every cult film fan’s life when they must bite the bullet and admit to themselves that they will likely never truly “get” Jesús “Jess” Franco. It may take years of attempts as well as multiple instances of genuinely convincing yourself that you know what you’re getting into when the words “Directed by JESS FRANK” (or some other perversion that may or may not be similar to his actual name) crops up on the screen. Adrian Lyne is best known for his famous (and infamous) sexual thrillers, like 9½ Weeks, Fatal Attraction, and Unfaithful. But his first studio film is arguably the most fun and most joyfully sexy.

video messages and apologies in their absence, but thirteen others are, among them John Doman (William Rawls), Larry Prologue" (Episode 6) with stars Dominic West and Michael K. Williams, and "Port in a Storm" (Episode 12) with co-producer Bob Colesberry died during surgery while we were prepping season three of the drama. A short time later, HBO came to us with news that the world was going to HD and 16:9, as Bob had anticipated. We could, if we wanted, film the remaining seasons of The Wire in HD and widescreen. But at that point a collective decision then was made to complete the project using the template that we had honed, the construct that we felt we had used to good effect to make the story feel more stolen than shaped, and to imply a more journalistic rendering of Baltimore than a filmic one. Brigitte (Lynn Monteil) isn’t as well-informed, but the pair make their way to Las Palmas, where they begin to perform their graceless lesbian strip act at the Flamingo Club, which, naturally, is owned by a couple that keeps female erotic celebrities as sex slaves with the help of a hypnotic opal that places them at the mercy of the beautiful Irina (Joëlle Le Quément). Cecile starts out as a photographer but soon gets way too involved, while Brigitte spends some quality time with gay artistic director Milton (Mel Rodrigo). Eventually Cecile works her way into being kidnapped herself and stages a breakout, while Brigitte ends up getting involved with the Governor who hired them. Chaos and ridiculousness ensue. Attias and story editor William F. Zorzi, "A New Day" (Episode 11) with actors Robert Chew, Jermaine Crawford, Maestro Harrell, commentaries, and none of the series' actors are invited to contribute their perspective. However, the end result is still a richer

This shift to 1.33:1 optimization, along with numerous shots Simon has since deemed more artistic or meaningful via their original 1.33:1 composition, imposed several additional challenges during the remastering process. Thankfully, HBO invited Simon and executive producer Nina Noble to oversee and guide the later stages of the project, going so far as to delay the widescreen version's debut by several months so the duo could ensure the 1.78:1 image was as strong as it could be and, ultimately, as much to their satisfaction as possible. Problematic 1.33:1 shots were subtly altered to preserve artistic intent, visible equipment and crew members were carefully removed from the edges of the 1.78:1 image, and shots involving out-of-sync actors (who were previously off-screen) have been dealt with. (Further details about the remastering and Simon's involvement can be found here, along with a full overview of the process. I highly recommend it if the particulars of the widescreen vs. full frame debate are of any interest to you whatsoever. It's a terrific read.) Synapse’s Blu-ray (it’s also on DVD, but LIVE IN THE NOW, MAN!) is the perfect example of what makes the format so great and so continuingly necessary for collectors even in the age of streaming media. More than the mess of a film, the Blu-ray’s special features give the audience insight into why the film feels so off. “The Ultimate Nightmare: The Making of Curtains” is a retrospective documentary featuring director Richard Ciupka, actresses Donaldson and Griffin, editor Michael MacLaverty, effects artist Greg Cannom and composer Paul Zaza, and everyone interviewed is wonderfully candid, very open to speaking about the behind-the-scenes issues the film had and, most prominently, the conflicts between the visions of director Ciupka and producer Peter R. Simpson, one that ended with Simpson shooting additional footage and re-editing the film and causing Ciupka to take his name off of the project and substituting the name Vernon’s character in the film! For example, I’m ashamed that despite being a longtime fan of Romero’s zombie oeuvre and a fervent Tales from the Darkside evangelist, I hadn’t made time for Creepshow until this year. If anything, I’d avoided the anthology. Despite its iconic poster, teenage me couldn’t imagine a good horror movie starring Stephen King (who also wrote the film) and the guys from Cheers and Airplane. Adult me now knows better than to underestimate Ted Danson and Leslie Nielsen, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, but King’s performance is fine — even charming, if not a fair bit insensitive to the rural folk from where I grew up. Pelecanos, and "Final Grades" (Episode 13) with creator David Simon and executive producer Nina K. Noble.McQueen’s films span a wide range of subjects, but what connects them is a historian-like approach to filmmaking, emphasizing veracity and the elevation of underheard voices. Small Axe is, perhaps, the culmination of this focus. All five films capture the lives of West Indian immigrants in London from the ’60s to the ’80s. They range from small domestic dramas and romances to interrogations of policing and imprisonment.
