About this deal

My first run was 15 kilometres at an easy pace. The first thing that surprised me was how much cushion the midsole had. A lot of runners stay away from “stability” shoes because it usually means firm, heavy and “poking arch” sensation. There’s a good reason that true stability shoes are a dying breed.

Remember when Nike led us to believe that the Structure was being discontinued because they compared the React Infinity Run to it and said that the React Infinity Run caused runners fewer injuries than the Structure 22? When you have a classic like the Structure which has been around for 22 versions, it would be silly to just kill off the name and forget it ever existed. The Structure 23 is Nike’s version of the Ultra Boost ST: high levels of cushioning with a built up medial side.It has only been launched in a very small number of markets in Asia and Nike has chosen to not name the foam that its midsole is made of or give its standard size weight. Everyone’s gait is slightly different, but there are four main types of running styles and pronation: The Structure 24 can be used as your daily trainer, recovery trainer, or long run shoe. It’s not the best shoe for speed work because of its flexible forefoot and its plush upper which makes it weighty. Another change they made to the upper the location of the laces. They moved them up farther up the shoe. The was done in hopes to allow the forefoot to spread out in a natural way while you run. The following size chart is a guide to Nike clothing and footwear sizes with a comparison to European and US sizes.

The Structure 23 is the Structure series reimagined and I really like the direction that Nike has gone with it. Nike has yet to specify which foam they use in the Structure 23. On the midsole is written “CMP 010”. A new foam maybe? To me, it feels very similar to the Lunarlon that was used on the Vomero 10-13. There are also no longer reflective strips on the sides of the toe box like on the 23, but there are still reflective strips on the sides of the heel counter. The structure uses a multi-thread that gives grip but still lets you rip. The treads don’t have aggressive lugs that get in the way of the road. On the medial side, the midsole is built up more than on the lateral side so there is a noticeable level of under-arch support without the firm poking sensational. This was such a pleasant surprise for me. Nike uses a dual-density midsole with Phylon and Cushlon materials to create what they call Dynamic Support. The densities of the lateral and the medial sides are the same but the wall of the medial side is just much higher. Inward rolling of the foot is controlled by making the medial side more cushioned than the lateral side. I love my Structure 23’s for long weekend runs. It serves the same purpose as my Triumph 18’s and my Floatride Run 2.0’s. It’s not nearly as responsive but it beats both of them when it comes to outsole durability.

If you loved the Lunarglide series, the Structure 23 also has shades of the Lunarglide (8 & 9) although the Structure 23 is much more cushioned and has a lot more outsole rubber. It took 1.5 to 2 miles on each run before I began to feel comfortable. It almost felt as if the sole unit never truly broke in, as my feet had to adjust to the shoe on every run.. The whole shoe was stiff, but especially the sole. There’s also a small Zoom Air unit in the forefoot of the Structure 24 which is only situated under the ball of the foot and doesn’t cover the entire forefoot like in the Vomero 16 and the Pegasus 38. Unlike many of Nike’s offerings, the Zoom Structure 22 has a roomy toe box. There is nothing worse than to be cramped up front on those repeats or even worse that long run.

The Structure 24 is the same price as the Pegasus 38 but is more comfortable and more stable so I’d choose the Structure over the Pegasus even though it’s the heavier shoe.Forget everything you previously knew about the Structure series because the Structure 23 is unlike any other Structure shoe to date. Consider coming into a store and doing a video gait analysis. Gait analysis monitors your body’s movement and your feet (sports biomechanics) whilst running. It’s commonly used to help athletes run more efficiently and to identify movement related problems for people with injuries who are seeking new running shoes. During gait analysis you will be asked to walk and run on our in-store treadmill whilst your movements are recorded using the latest Daftfish software. A slow-motion, detailed analysis will show and explain your biomechanics, specifically looking at pronation, the inward-turning movement that occurs when your foot touches the ground. During walking and running this acts as cushioning for the body. You get thin reflective strips on both sides of the heel and a single strip on the medial side of the toe box for night-time visibility. The easiest way to tell the difference between the Structure 23 and 24 is the engineered mesh used. It no longer has small perforations on the midfoot and on top of the toe box. Instead, the mesh is smooth so it feels more streamlined.
