Acquired from independent brewer and pub company, Hall and Woodhouse Limited, tropical fruit brand Rio has been marketed, sold and distributed on an exclusive licence brand by AG Barr’s recently acquired Boost Drinks division for the last two years. Rio, formerly known as Rio Riva and Arriva is a British brand of soft drink made by Hall & Woodhouse. AG Barr started its journey off in a small factory in Scotland, Falkirk, growing into one of the UK’s leading independent soft drinks businesses. Following today’s announcement, it adds Rio to its range of leading brands including Irn Bru, Rubicon, FUNKIN and Boost. Rio was redesigned again in 2017 by Pearlfisher taking inspiration from Brazilian street art to target a younger demographic. [4] [5] The logo was changed as well, with the ‘O’ being turned into a sun to emphasise their slogan of "Celebrate the Sunny". [6] In June of the same year, they introduced 500ml PET bottles.
