About this deal

The RP-7000 MK2 comes with many professional features that have been designed to make any DJ’s lie easier. This includes handy functions like a newly developed aluminium LED target light, which allows you to find the stylus position in a dark environment, as well as an additional start/stop button that lets the turntable be used in a battle-style configuration. For even more creative control over your vinyl, the RP-7000mk2 features controls for three motor speeds (33 1/3, 45, & 78rpm) as well as dedicated controls for forward and reverse modes. As far as NAB standards, I’m afraid I have to laugh. What does NAB have to say about the use of very lossy MP3 files? The vast majority of radio stations load up their automation systems with compressed digital files of dubious audio quality and provenance. Sometimes they rip stuff from YouTube! Good lord. Built for the club: rigid chassis construction with an even heavier design with additional reinforcements made of metal, rubber and moulding compound for high vibration damping and isolation Solid and meaty in terms of construction with an element of aesthetic finesse that is pleasing on the eye, the Turn 5 provides an admirable array of detail in and around the midrange and treble with a secure and assured suite of lower frequencies that provide a welcome poise to the soundstage. More importantly, it’s a little different from the competition and provides a bone fide and welcome sonic choice at this important price point.

An additional start/stop button has also been integrated to facilitate a vertical setup (battle position) and by using the buttons on the RP-7000 MK2's top panel, you can switch between the three motor speeds (33 1/3, 45 & 78 rpm). Dedicated buttons for forward and reverse mode allow for further creativity in your mix. Thanks to the recessed rear connection panel, the RP-7000 MK2 GLD can easily be mounted in a flight case and seamlessly positioned next to other DJ gear. The switchable integrated phono pre-amp makes it is possible to use the gold-plated RCA connectors for both phono and line output signals. An optional ground terminal offers additional protection in club environments. All cable connections (RCA/mains) are detachable and easy to exchange, which also helps with transport and storage. Reloop quote a wow and flutter specification of 0.01%. In practice I measured values of 0.0927 RMS and 0.1817 peak, average of readings taken over 10 seconds using a 3kHz test tone. The Turn 5 comfortably bests the quoted 60dB DIN-B signal to noise ratio figure, achieving a through-groove reading of 73dB. The plinth is heavy and well damped, though does produce a slight ring when tapped with a stylus on the record. This isn’t an issue at this price, especially as the feet do a very fine job of isolating the plinth from external vibrations.

Offering quartz-controlled accuracy, if you turn the platter over, you’ll see some rubber damping while, on the upper part of the plinth, the company has supplied a rubber mat. As well as the above technical innovations, the RP-7000 MK2 is equipped with a few functions that will make any DJ's life much easier. The newly developed aluminium LED target light is freely moveable to help you find the stylus position in dark surroundings. The target light is also removable and easily exchanged. An additional start / stop button has also been integrated to facilitate a vertical setup (battle position) and by using the buttons on the RP-7000 MK2's top panel, you can switch between the three motor speeds (33 1 / 3, 45 & 78 rpm). Dedicated buttons for forward and reverse mode allow for further creativity in your mix. Another feature that may be of interest to some buyers is the integrated sound card. You can connect the turntable to your laptop and make digital recordings of all your records using the rekordbox software. A dust cover would definitely have been nice for this price, and that surface vinyl light is a quality let-down (only Pioneer DJ, with its appreciably more expensive PLX-1000, seems to have got that Technics-feel light as a feature), but overall if you want pro club-standard turntables, a pair of these will do you just fine without breaking the bank. They deliver both value and quality, which is always a good combination, especially in something as long-lasting and fundamental to the art of DJing as a turntable. Most importantly, the Turn 5 is quite simply great fun to listen to. Agile bass makes for a lively and energetic low end. In the highs its sonic signature is more relaxed than bright; some would say ‘warm’. But it is extremely musical and rich in the midband, making vocals and acoustic instruments in particular a delight. And while it isn’t the most dynamic sound going, it is at least cohesive in the way it presents layers of musical information to the listener and has enough ‘get up and go’ to remain interesting during extended listening sessions. Summary

Dedicated buttons for forward and reverse mode allow for further creativity in your mix.mode buttons, three layers with 12 performance modes (Hot Cue, Loop Roll, Slicer, Sampler, Pitch Play, Saved Loop, Slicer Loop, Saved Flips, Platter Play, Transport, 2 User Modes) and dual layer parameter buttons per side I know for a fact that this happens because three of my friends are DJs at three different stations and they've all told me about it. Thanks to the recessed rear connection panel, the RP-7000 MK2 can easily be mounted in a flight case and seamlessly positioned next to other DJ gear. The switchable integrated phono pre-amp makes it is possible to use the gold-plated RCA connectors for both phono and line output signals. Moving into the modern era for more traditional DJs is easier with an outstanding turntable like the Rane DJ Twelve MK2. It features a classic vinyl platter, pitch-range control, start/stop button, solid steel construction, and all the other features of a conventional DJ turntable.
