About this deal

On the Mignon Perfetto, the dial is especially sensitive, with the entire grind range on one rotation of the dial. The indicated grind ranges make for a good starting point, but you may occasionally find that you have to move outside of the range specified for a given brew method. This is not a defect but is simply caused by the inherent variations in coffee and overlap in grind sizes for different brew methods. Timed Dosing Unsurprisingly, that also means you’ll have a significant amount of retention/exchange from brew to brew. The exchange has typically been around 1-1.,5 grams in my testing period. Please note that the latest version of the Crono is slightly different, and is made with brew in mind, not espresso. If I was choosing between this and the Baratza Encore/Virtuoso, I would probably sacrifice the slightly nicer UX on those models and opt for the better-built and way more consistent Filtro.

IMO it’s also rare for domestic users to brew more than the max capacity of a drip coffee maker. So, a hopper would only need to hold around 100 grams to serve most filter coffee drinkers well. The square hopper holds 300 grams of coffee. The Filtro looks like the Mignon Specialita and Mignon Silenzio, two of Eureka’s most popular espresso grinders. Over the years, I have done a lot of sifting tests, and I’m confident that this is the most consistent grinder I have tested so far. The new geometry offers next level consistency An extreme grinder ACE System Technology — Anti-Clumps & Electrostaticity operations eliminates common issues found with other grinders. In terms of capability specifically for espresso though, I would have to give this one to Mignon. The burrs provide a bit more in terms of grind uniformity, and the stepless adjustment on the Mignons gives better dialing in ability.

Eureka is an Italian coffee brand based in Florence. It’s one of the coffee industry’s most well-known and respected companies. The brand only produces coffee grinders and has been doing so for more than 100 years. That should tell you something about their dedication! The Crono is one of the latest models from Eureka, it's one of the lower cost options, without the silent technology so they're slightly louder, although still, fairly quiet relatively speaking. Finally, we should mention size. At 50mm in diameter, the Silenzio’s burrs are modestly sized. You’ll find that the grinder is easily fast enough for any household’s demands. Stepless Grind Adjustment Personally, having used the Specialita, given the relatively small difference in price for larger burrs and the LCD controls with the two dose settings and on demand grinding via the touch screen, I'd pay the extra.

At the same time, the adjustment dial is not calibrated for espresso. Instead, it uses a different pitch that is coarser, so you won’t be able to dial in shots very accurately. You're going to get some grind retention with just about all grinders, and generally speaking the bigger the burrs, the bigger the retention – although that's not always the case, and there are modifications that can be done to the bigger commercial grinders to reduce retention. I ended up buying the Eureka adjustable fork after posting the review, which wasn't cheap for what it is. However, it resolved the issue of the OEM piece not working hands free for my naked holder. The grounds still spill over a bit and pile up on the far end, but that doesn't bother me too much anymore.I find it strange that it has taken so many years for grinder manufacturers to appreciate single-dosing. I've used the Mignon, in particular the Eureka Mignon Specialita, which I used along with the ACS Minima I reviewed, and as I'll share with you a bit later on in this review post, I was very impressed. To start the Silenzio, you need to either push a half-spherical button with your round PF to start the timed grind or keep pushing it for manual grind. The higher the retention, the more coffee you're going to waste, both when using the grinder for the first time each day and also in between adjusting grind settings while dialing in.

The espressi taste slightly better, so if you are on the way to become a coffee aficionado and want to differentiate every sublte taste, then this grinder might be a good, and really pretty option. Ya can’t really complain about something breaking if you don’t remove its fasteners before trying to move it. The company offers a wide range of grinders, from entry-level to professional models. However, previously the focus has solely been on espresso grinders. Being short is a big plus for our kitchen, we don't have much space on the worktops under the cupboards, so I struggle with taller grinders. I've used the Eureka Atom 65 too, and that was a struggle to fit under the cupboards, which meant having to use the grinder quite a distance from the espresso machine.

Comparable Alternatives

Do you know the proper timing for the dose of coffee or espresso you require? If so, there’s no need to use your phone to time the grinder – you can rely on the Silenzio to time itself.
