About this deal

Apply Nemaslug to moist soil. The soil temperature should be 5ºC or over (this is also when plants start to grow). Nematodes are capable of surviving the odd frost; so don't worry if the temperature falls after you have applied Nemaslug. Slug pellets are reported not to be effective below 7ºC. Chitwood BG (1937). "A revised classification of the Nematoda". Papers on Helminthology published in commemoration of the 30year Jubileum of ... K.J. Skrjabin... Moscow: All-Union Lenin Academy of Agricultural Sciences. pp.67–79.

Dragonfli Slug Killer Nematodes are a biological molluscicide containing invective juveniles of Phasmarhabditis sp.. The Phasmarhabditis sp. are minute worm-like nematodes that are approximately 0.3 - 0.5mm long and transparent in appearance. They occur naturally in soils in areas prone with molluscs and are very active when observed under microscope. The grey field slug is highly vulnerable to the nematode but larger species are only susceptible when they are young and small. Which slug species occur in gardens, and which of those are actually behaving as pests, are neutral or beneficial garden wildlife? This study uses a citizen science approach. The Secernentea seem to be a natural group of close relatives, while the "Adenophorea" appear to be a paraphyletic assemblage of roundworms that retain a good number of ancestral traits. The old Enoplia do not seem to be monophyletic, either, but do contain two distinct lineages. The old group " Chromadoria" seems to be another paraphyletic assemblage, with the Monhysterida representing a very ancient minor group of nematodes. Among the Secernentea, the Diplogasteria may need to be united with the Rhabditia, while the Tylenchia might be paraphyletic with the Rhabditia. [40] Predatory gall midge, Feltiella acarisuga. The 2mm long pale yellow maggots of this midge can find small hidden populations of red spider mite and when available can be used early and late in the season.I like to apply nematodes twice a year, once in spring and then again in autumn. There are two main factors to bear in mind when applying nematodes. They don’t like cold weather and need it to be above 5 Celsius. Most UK slug species are herbivorous, eating leaves, flowers, fruits, mushrooms, lichens and decaying plant material. Some, such as the Leopard slug, are carnivorous and hunt other slugs and snails. a b Brady, Nyle C. & Weil, Ray R. (2009). Elements of the Nature and Properties of Soils (3rded.). Prentice Hall. Slug pellets Use only Ferric phosphate-based pellets. They contain ferric phosphate or iron III phosphate, which affects the calcium metabolism in the gut system of snails and slugs causing them to stop feeding and die within three to six days. Although the ferric phosphate is less toxic than metaldehyde (used in other pellets), there remains the problem of the other ingredients in the tablets - known as chelators. These chemicals help bond the iron molecules and make them more toxic to the molluscs. Unfortunately, they also affect earthworms, and, if consumed in large quantities, can poison pets. Our advice is to use these pellets only as a last resort. Use them sparingly, and store them safely. Other slug pellets, those based on metaldehyde or methiocarb, should NEVER be used in an organic garden. Spray repellent - made from yucca plant extract, spray onto surfaces and around vulnerable plants. Especially useful in hard-to-protect-places like greenhouse window frames. Needs renewing after heavy rain. How can gardeners use ‘Integrated Pest Management’ techniques to get better control of damaging gastropods? Can existing control measures be combined to give better control? This study focussed on combining the most well evidenced control measures and its results and evidence based advice will be published later in 2020. Nematode Steinernema feltiae. This nematode is sometimes supplied for control of these scale insects.Nemaslug is a unique product, containing microscopic worms (nematodes) which seek out slugs and stop them feeding on your plants within 3 days and then kill them. Nemaslug might affect water snails. To avoid harming them, keep the treatment 15 cm (6″) away from ponds. Wilson, E.O. "Phylum Nemata". nematode.unl.edu. Plant and insect parasitic nematodes. Parasitoid wasps, Leptomastix species, Leptomastideaspeciesand Anagrusspecies. These are often available in combinations and with Cryptolaemusfor mealybug control. These parasiotoids are good at searching for mealybugs and can find them when populations are small. Weischer B, Brown DJ (2000). An Introduction to Nematodes: General Nematology. Sofia, Bulgaria: Pensoft. pp.75–76. ISBN 978-954-642-087-9.Barriers, thought to repel slugs, include rough or sharp textured mulches and substances thought to be distasteful or strong smelling. Copper-base barriers have been shown to repel slugs in some studies. A recent RHS studyin a garden-realistic scenario however, found no reduction in slug damage from barriers made of copper tape, bark mulch, eggshells, sharp grit or wool pellets In total, 4.4 × 10 20 nematodes inhabit the Earth's topsoil, or approximately 60billion for each human, with the highest densities observed in tundra and boreal forests. [22] The soil should be moist for 2 to 3 weeks after application to enable the nematodes to live. During dry spells watering may be necessary. Gubanov, N.M. (1951).
