About this deal

Despite the exaggerated outputs this is a great little torch with bright high CRI LEDs, good build quality and all the flexibility of its Anduril 2 firmware. Fenix E18R V2.0 Excellent operation and simple user interface. In conclusion an almost perfect usable EDC for many uses and activities (household, reading, camping etc). The 4 LEDs sit behind a TIR lens and the beam is floody, but with the huge amount of output the throw is still 209 metres with an intensity of 10900 candela. Although this is still less than the Fenix PD25R with only 800 lumens of output – which it can also hold for a lot longer. It really does depend on what you want. Lux Meter: For lumen readings and runtimes, an Adafruit TSL2591 connected to a Raspberry Pi running Ubuntu, using RuTiTe by bmengineer in a custom sphere (build document coming soon, when I have some more time). A UNI-T UT383S is used for candela readings. An Adafruit MCP9808 rounds out the list for temperature monitoring.

It would be nice if there was an actual TURBO mode within 500 to 1,00 lumens range, rather than a 4,000 lumens MOMENTARY TURBO mode. However, Nitecore probably went with a MOMENTARY TURBO instead, much like the Nitecore TM10K model. Tint & CRILED. The T4K features a user-friendly interface with a single side switch for convenient operation. It offers five brightness levels and three special modes, including strobe, SOS, and beacon, providing versatile lighting options for different situations. You should unscrew the head to remove the battery, not the tailcap. If you do remove the tailcap which is lightly glued in place, be careful you don’t lose its loose components.

The T4K arrived in a slightly different box than I’m used to with Nitecore lights – usually, I would be expecting a box that can be hung up on a retail wall-and-hook arrangement, but this has come in a box that’s more designed for displaying directly on a shelf. In DAILY mode, the flashlight will remain on until the user turns it off manually. The "TURBO" level is only momentary by holding down the "MODE" button.

I measured the colour temperature as a cool 6507K but with a very neutral tint and a decent CRI of 70. There’s also the enthusiast’s favourite the Emisar D4V2 which you can configure however you like – front LEDs, switch LED, body colour etc. Turbo output from Emisar D4V2 (3 x domed Nichia 519A 4500K emitters 3800 lm) The T1S uses a Luminus SST-40 LED behind a TIR lens and has pretty good throw for a tiny torch with a noticeable hotspot – around 184 metres or 8460 candela in turbo mode. This torch has a Luminus SST40 LED and the manual simply lists runtimes as “the lower the brightness the longer the runtime, with a range from 1 lumen to 2000 lumens” This is one issue I have with a lot of Anduril torches. You often don’t know the exact runtime of any particular mode – and with the default smooth ramped brightness it’s very easy to have a higher brightness than you need, with very short runtimes as a consequence. And to complicate matters further it’s possible to manually configure temperature step down with Anduril firmware – which will alter brightness levels and runtimes considerably. One of the obvious features of the T4K is its size and portability. Whether you want a flashlight on-hand for emergencies or if you need it for a midnight stroll, the tiny yet powerful T4K travels and stores easily.
