Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and supporting my endeavors to make people’s lives a little easier/better/more affordable. Painting: Then, apply two coats with a brush or roller, leaving two to four hours drying time between each coat. Do not apply in very damp or humid conditions or extreme temperatures. First, you can add your own liquid to the built-in 22-ounce capacity spray bottle, so you can ensure the solution is compatible with painted walls. To dispense the solution, all you have to do is pull the trigger on the handle. Rubbermaid Reveal Spray Mop: If you’re looking for the convenience of a spray mop, this is the best one for walls and ceilings because you can use your own cleaning solution, and it doesn’t leak.

Here are the steps, techniques and products we recommend for how to clean walls without damaging them. Products you'll need: This is the only spray mop on the list because this type of mop can potentially leak, oversaturate walls, or come with cleaning solutions that can damage your paint. This should remove most, if not all,of the dust. You can always just keep swapping out the pad and repeating until it’s asdustless as you want it to be. Then just go ahead and wash your little heart out.

If cleaning with Vinegar (as mentioned just above this section)is not your cup of tea there are a few other cleaning solutions that would be a good option. Unsure how much paint you’ll need? Make sure you calculate the right amount of paint by using the Dulux Easycare paint calculator before hitting the shops. Buying only the paint you need keeps costs down and is better for the environment. One of the best materials is microfiber. It cleans well with only water, is soft enough not to cause damage, and absorbs well. Chomp Long Handle Dust Mop: This mop boasts a unique teardrop-shaped mop head, ideal for cleaning corners, baseboards, crown molding, and trim. The only way to clean walls without leaving marks is to use gentle products and gentle circular motions. Avoid anything with ammonia as this will strip the paint from the walls. Likewise, using too much force will result in buffing off the paint. What can I use instead of sugar soap to clean walls?

Besides being ideal for wet or dry cleaning, it extends up to an impressive 62 inches, making it one of the best mops for reaching high ceilings, windows, or walls. Contrary to its name, sugar soap isn’t a sweetened dishwasher. It’s actually a gentle chemical compound that’s crystallised to look like sugar. Its main use is on bare walls to help the coat of paint adhere better. However, it can also be used on painted walls to clean them up.

For glossy finishes, which are less durable when it comes to cleaning, avoid harsh substances and consider using heat instead. Place an absorbent cloth over the oil stain and heat the cloth with an iron on its lowest heat setting. The heat should emulsify the oil so that it soaks into the cloth. Work top to bottom, left to right, and gently spray (more mist than stream) the wall down with your wall cleaner of choice. The main downside of this mop is that it’s significantly more expensive than the others. In fact, you could buy two or three other mops for the price of one Norwex.

I use Dr Bronner’s Sal Su ds to clean my walls with, and if you want to read my post about how it is my favorite multipurpose cleaner ever, and all the awesome ways to use it, you can see that here. Please note that if your walls are really dusty you are going to want to take care of that first, so you are going to need to dust the walls. After attracting dust and debris with the dry mop pad, you can switch to the wet for a complete cleaning solution. The mop is designed to be used with water, eliminating the need for chemicals and reducing waste for an eco-friendly cleaning solution. Due to the thousands of fluffy fibers, it is better suited for dusting than wet cleaning. That doesn’t mean you can’t use it for wet applications, but use water and not a cleaning solution for the best results when you do.

Before I break down how to wash walls with vinegar, I wanted to tell you that I actually do not recommend cleaning all types of painted walls with vinegar…that is because Vinegar is acidic.

Baking soda is an ethical cleaner’s dream. Readily available in the home and a wonder in the kitchen (whether it’s for baking or cleaning!), baking soda is a go-to product for removing stains and marks in several scenarios. What’s more, it’s gentle enough to use on wallpaper as well as paint! Yes, a wet rag is the most basic way to wash walls or surfaces throughout the home, and I only recommend doing it in low-traffic areas because otherwise you really should use some sort of cleaning agent to wash away body oils and smudges that make our homes actually dirty. Fill a spray bottle with sugar soap and warm water as per the instructions on the bottle, and mix until the sugar dissolves. If you know anything about me, you know that I try to make things as simple as possible, but I still want the same results as if I did it the hard way. Remember, regular dusting and occasional gentle cleaning are the keys to maintaining the appearance of painted walls without causing any harm. Always use soft materials and avoid abrasive scrubbing to preserve the paint finish for years to come.

Of all the surfaces in your home that need cleaning, walls are probably way down on your list, if they are even on the list at all. But like floors, countertops, furniture and other horizontal surfaces, vertical surfaces collect dust, fingerprints and scuffs and scrapes, too. With an occasional cleaning, the walls in your home — whether painted or papered — can stay looking their best. All walls can be dry dusted, but only some are safe for wet cleaning. In the Good Housekeeping Institute Cleaning Lab, one of the tests we do when we evaluate multi-purpose cleaners is to see how well and how safely they clean painted walls. Use a baking soda paste (equal parts soda and water) to remove any stains with a clean microfibre cloth. This works on painted walls as long as you don’t rub too hard.
