About this deal

Like I said above too high for my tastes. This is something that can be adjusted. If you like this guitar (and it’s price!) but you want a lower action it’s worth spending a little bit to get it set up lower – or if you know how to lower it yourself. Nut Width

The tonewoods used to construct a guitar is one of the primary considerations you want to make when buying. And while you can't expect all-solid woods or exotic tonewoods to be used in a budget instrument, the FG800 has surprisingly good construction for the price. Either is a fantastic choice for the beginner to the intermediate player. It would serve its purpose valiantly for years without concern for longevity or build quality. This guitar sits between the FG800 and FG830. It offers an upgrade to the FG800 in looks and the quality of materials as well as being available in a range of colors. Plus, it has a slightly better sound, including a great bass and clear mid-range, which is warm in tone. It’s a great step up for those who have mastered the basics of playing and are now looking for something with a little more power. Pros and Cons: Pros Now that we have taken the time to highlight the differences and similarities between both instruments, how do they compare when pitted against each other head-to-head? Collection and delivery costs are included for the first 2 years in the event of an item becoming faulty

If an item can not be repaired, a similar alternative product or cash discount (as defined in this policy) will be offered The bridge and fretboard were both made from walnut, which is a wood that is seeing a lot more use, even in high end models. The grain on the fretboard looked good, and was nice and tight, with no deep pores. We loved the rounded fretboard edges, too, they significantly added to the comfort and playability, and we found ourselves wishing other manufacturers at this price point would do the same. The mid range, particularly at the lower end of the mids, was the most prominent part of the FG800s tone profile, but they never felt overpowering. In fact, they complemented the upper registers well to provide some great balance to the tone. Due to Yamaha’s intention of keeping the price of the FG800 and FS800 down, using both Nato and Sitka tonewoods ensures that the buyer is purchasing a quality product that sounds good and is durable without necessarily breaking the budget. Playability While it's always a good idea to also do your research as you shop for guitars, the available information is sometimes overwhelming, especially if you're just starting. Here, we've gathered some of the critical features and benefits of the Yamaha FG800 Acoustic guitar. Sound Quality And Tonewoods

The width at the nut on the FG800 is 43mm (1 11/16″). This is a narrower width than the traditional width but it’s fast becoming the standard width on acoustic guitars. The spruce top kept the tones snappy and bright, which gave it a nice shimmering top end with enough punch to keep things sounding full. When played with arpeggiated chords or fingerstyle, the note separation was far better than expected, with bell like clarity.

Both guitars come equipped with die-cast tuners that felt reasonable enough when in use , the gear ratio gives a smooth tuning action, and we did not experience any creaks or tight keys while tuning either instrument. Perfect for new, developing, and seasoned players on a budget. The FG Series offers high-quality instruments with great tone and playability. Yamaha's legendary quality control ensures that the guitar is setup to the same specifications as their high-end instruments. An outstanding playing experience with an affordable price tag. Improve and develop your skills with Yamaha's solid top acoustic guitar. Sound that just keeps givingThe Traditional Western body shape is similar to the popular Dreadnought shape. Loved for its bold and rich tone, large size and its loud volume the Traditional Western is highly regarded for its versatility.

With both models sharing so many features, there is little to compare as they are both quite similar.

Additional Media

This is great as the tuning keys are generally the first piece of hardware to get thrown into the fire when manufacturers decide to keep costs down on an acoustic guitar. Hopefully, our guide on the Yamaha FS800 and FG800 has provided some much-needed insight to buyers who are left scratching their heads deciding which model best suits their needs. However, the Gear4music extended warranty scheme provides an enhanced service, and is designed to offer a higher level of protection than many 'free' warranties offered by some retailers and manufacturers.
