About this deal

I don't think I'm suppose to like this book. I mean I should like it and I did like it but I don't know why I liked it. I cannot say same for David. From the beginning of the series, I keep getting irritated by his pretentious manners and in this book… when I was reading the chapters related with him, I wanted to jump into the book and punch him in the face. I just don't like the awkward romance thing between David and Stevie. It's so awkward. I preferred the chemistry between Vi and Janelle more no matter how small their parts were. In fact, I like all the characters with all their flaws and perfections.

I heard about her from one of the top librarians at the public library, this girl from Avenue A who read Greek and slipped into one of the rare books rooms three times. They said she was trouble, but good trouble." This inclusive, inventive, and vastly entertaining series has been a boon to YA literature. As a layered, complex character who solves crime while also battling anxiety, Stevie Bell reads like the redoubtable love child of Jessica Fletcher and Adrian Monk. There will hopefully be more Stevie Bell mysteries to come." — Horn Book Magazine Overall, this just wasn’t for me. But please take my review with a grain of salt, because almost everyone I know loves and adores this story. I also think a big reason why this might not have been a hit for me is also because I had just read A Study in Charlotte and completely fallen in love with that contemporary murder mystery. Maybe I was subconsciously comparing the two? I don’t know, but I just didn’t love this one, friends, even though I really wish that I would have!

Ellingham Academy is a famous private school in Vermont for the brightest thinkers, inventors, and artists. It was founded by Albert Ellingham, an early twentieth century tycoon who wanted to make a wonderful place full of riddles, twisting pathways, and gardens. "A place," he said, "where learning is a game." This posh Academy offers up an environment where learning is intended to be fun. Students are allowed to pursue individual interests with hardly any limits.

Where do you look for someone who's never really there? Always on a staircase, but never on a stair.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

HUNTER IS DEFINITELY ON MY SUSPECTS LIST. I thought it was Dr. Fenton but she's dead now (or at least that's how the book ended) so she can't be a suspect anymore. Right.....? Counselors,” Nate mumbled under his breath. “You get a counselor and you get a counselor, and you get . . .” I can assume I had some of the same issues with it I had with the first one: weird pacing due to this being a trilogy about one or two mysteries; an overwhelming onslaught of quirkiness. Also, something I loved about the first one was Boarding School, and this one consisted of way more time spent off-campus, leading to kind of a last-book-in-Harry-Potter-can’t-they-just-stay-at-Hogwarts type feel.
