About this deal

If the OS stays current and the gameplay smooth, then this will be an absolute beauty to play. The original XD Plus came with MT8176+PowerVR Hexa-core processor, 4GB RAM and 32Gb Storage, which twinned with the right OS would make for the kind of super-smooth play that dreams are made of. We think that we might see the RAM increased to 8GB as stated above if the info we have is true and the storage increased to at least 64GB for holding all of your favourite titles. Console Emulation

We would be willing to bet on the fact that the new GPD XD 2 will come with USB-C fast charging and an increased battery size of maybe 8000MAH, falling in line with the battery size of the PSP.

Please Note

In summary, EXCELLENT for Steam In-Home Streaming (AAAAND the new Steam Link app) or for nVidia GameSteam over Moonlight APK. Also good for most Emulators up to the fifth/sixth gen consoles. Migrating to a MediaTek SOC and doubling the ram/storage yields a snappy system with all-day battery life (I unplugged this at around 8am today and the battery was still at about 14% when I plugged it in after 8pm, using it heavily but sporadically throughout the day. 6000MaH is roughly 2x the battery capacity of a Samsung Galaxy S7 phone, for context). The GPD XP is an Android gaming handheld similar in concept to the now-discontinued MOQI i7 and MOQI i7S. It is going to be outdated and is overpriced, but there are certainly ways to work around it. There is a dedicated community for it. It can play most ROMs pretty well, but you will need to find the best possible emulation app that you can. The free ones on the app store probably aren’t going to cut it – you will need to pay for the app and then problem pay per ROM. The price is going to add up over time, on top of an already overly expensive device. Overall, the design of the GPD XD Plus is pretty good. It is made out of high-quality parts. Some people will think that it is a bit clustered and even looks a bit outdated, but others are fine with it. The best feature, and the most obvious, is that 5” screen. This thing is bright, has good quality images, and it works extremely well at night. It is built to display the nostalgic colors of older games.

Once the process is completed, the PlayOn will reboot into Recovery Mode and perform a reset and then boot As an Android Retro Console it also handles this very well. The GPD XD Plus supports the Vulkan API, it means apps are more optimised and run faster. It can run most systems from the 70’s up to the 2000’s It can even emulate the Gamecube with some games running at a solid full frame rate. Thanks to Vulkan API support the emulators run more efficiently and as a result you get better speeds on your emulator and can play games as they were intended.

GPD XD Plus Performance Review

Edit: In the few weeks I've owned this thing, I've fallen in love with it. I now understand the keymapper button which allows you to bind touch controls to the physical buttons, thus making me far more formiddable in PUBG mobile. I'm loving the ability to pause any singleplayer title by closing the lid and resuming later, which means this device has been permanently *with* me for every long shopping outing, every line I've waited through, every slow phone call, and it's even helped me out of a jam or two at work. Update: GPD have confirmed that the launcher is the “GPD Metro UI” launcher. Likely to be extremely similar if not identical to the launcher seen in the XD Plus/ At first glance you’d be forgiven for assuming that the GPD XD is a Nintendo product, such is its similarity to the million-selling 3DS range of handhelds. It’s clear that the designers have simply ripped off the design of that clamshell system, even using largely the same arrangement of physical inputs – including the two additional shoulder buttons introduced with the New Nintendo 3DS. The XD Plus has sold lots of units since its release and has enjoyed relative success, but we know that GPD can do and must do better. For a console with a similar price tag to the Creoqode Lyra, it has to be on top of its game not just on release day, but two, three, and even four years afterwards.

You can play your ROMs, but you will have trouble playing some of the best ones, which makes this a bit of a hard sell. You can connect to wireless controllers, which is a unique feature. Personally we’re not a fan of this, but if the system is as open to modification as you would expect an Android handheld to be, you should be able to install an alternative launcher. Thirdly. Are you interested in taking an in-depth look at the XP? DroiX has received a prototype sample from GPD themselves. So while this is not entirely reflective of what the final product will be like, we believe it will be a good overall indicator as to what you can expect from this Android gaming handheld. Update: The GPD XP is confirmed to feature 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM, which will provide fast loading speeds in a variety of games and emulators. Storage First and foremost, this merchant was extremely responsive, replying to my messages the same night I wrote them. That is worth its weight in gold, I find, when dealing with any kind of embedded system and when dealing with import goods.

GPD claim a maximum size of 2TB, but seeing as how 2TB microSD cards do not even exist (on the consumer market) at the time of writing, the validity of the claim is anyone’s guess. Operating System/Firmware
