It was my first PAIN FREE delivery. Some of you might think, “how in the world is that possible!” After four births, I had thought that exact same thing. I had pain in the laboring/contraction stage plus the pushing stage. I knew what pain felt like!

I found Facebook support groups and watched pain free birth vlogs and was quite horrified at first to be honest. It looked so painful and it made me scared, but nursing was painful too and I had done that, so… God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it.’ (NIV)

I had an epidural with my first, and while the labor/delivery wasn’t traumatic (at least I didn’t remember it that way… though they did use forceps and I didn’t get to hold him right away because there was meconium), the recovery was rather difficult. So I started reading and asking questions, thinking there has to be a better way. I read “Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth” which helped get rid of a lot of the fears I had about pursuing an unmedicated childbirth this time around and helped me understand why I had the complications I did. I finally came to the decision to have an unmedicated, natural, birth center birth this time around.

Baby came out! She was the biggest baby I had (9 lb 6 oz). That relief feeling of knowing that the work is D.O.N.E. You made it, you did it!I just have to share that as I studied labor and delivery, what a woman’s body does, birth stories, and Bible verses about labor and strength, I was overwhelmed often by this powerful love God was opening my eyes to… I was seriously SO SCARED of the pain of labor, because I had never had a labor where I didn’t get the epidural right away (at 4cm or earlier). But by listening to the Christian Hypnobirthing app, Bible verses and the vlogs with Christian women sharing about God helping them through, I would be moved to tears, because I could see His promises for women. Even though most people think you’re going to have your baby early when it is baby number 3, my third baby was the latest baby! With my firstborn, she was born on her due date. My second was born 2 days early via induction. This third baby came 5 days after her due date. A Prayer Journey into Parenthood by Claire Daniel. A beautiful devotional book with Bible reflections and prayers, and space for personal journalling. Includes the author’s story of infertility and God’s breakthrough! Would make a lovely gift. As Christians, we know that children are a blessing from God and raising them is a privilege we don’t take lightly. When it comes to the actual birth part, if you have tons of questions or feel a little nervous, you’re not alone.

The truth is, there’s no right way or wrong way to give birth but one thing we know for sure is the Bible is clear about the purpose of having children and what childbirth represents. My previous births, I thankfully had no complications, which is why we started to have home births. Every single time, once I go into labor, the baby tends to come out in a very short amount of time! This round, like her siblings, she came fast, and again I had no complications. However, I had an experience with this one that I didn’t have with any of the others.

God’s supernatural presence and glory shined through even during a long, painful labor. So much so that the nurses, doctors, midwife, and doula could feel something different in Yleana’s birthing room that they knew God was there! They were born August 28, 2005--the night Katrina hit landfall. Calleigh weighed 7 lbs 1oz and Cadence weighed 7 lbs even. They'll be 3 years old this Thursday, it is so awesome. Isn't that a wonderful miracle of God? Born healthy and a nice weight, and a wonderful pain free birth too! Next time I am going to pray for painfree afterpains, those were killer but thankfully they were over in a couple of days. After 3 days I was walking around, carrying them around and acting like nothing had ever happened! It was just so awesome, God is so good. Well, then God…One week, I was meeting with one of the midwives and she suggested a doula and I explained that the birth would be self pay, so we couldn’t swing a doula too. Bless her heart… She said she would ask around if any doulas just starting out would be willing to do it for a reduced price! This book was a blessing to my husband and me. It encouraged me to spend even more time in the Bible renewing my mind with the Word concerning childbirth. The time in the Word coupled with the encouragement in this book, reminded me I have been redeemed from the curse of the law. being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.
