About this deal

That's going to do it for our Radeon RX 6900 XT review. In short, don't buy it, doing so will simply ensure that the next GPU generation is even more expensive. Then again, we said that about the RTX 3090 and they've been selling like hotcakes, so we guess budget gaming is doomed. Shopping Shortcuts: Finally we have Watch Dogs Legion, which is one of two games that actually uses ray traced effects well – the other being Control. The RX 6900 XT faces a 56% performance reduction with ultra ray tracing enabled, whereas the RTX 3090 saw a 35% reduction and then just 12% with DLSS enabled. Power

Here the RX 6900 XT offers stellar performance across the board. Though it’s 4K score is oddly low. Due to time constraints, we haven’t had a chance to determine why. We’ll update this review when we have time. Radeon™ Boost is compatible with Windows 7 and 10 in select titles only. Hardware compatibility includes RX 400 and and newer consumer dGPUs, Ryzen 2000 and newer APUs, including hybrid and detachable graphics configurations. No mGPU support. For a list of compatible titles see https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/radeon-boost. GD-158 The RX 6950 XT is a graphics card that doesn’t need to exist. It’s a lot like Nvidia’s 12GB RTX 3080— a refresh meant to push prices up without offering any clear performance improvements. AMD already achieved a graphics card that can beat the RTX 3090, and it’s the RX 6900 XT, not this late-gen refresh. Are there any alternatives? Things don't improve much for the 6900 XT at 1440p, where it's 43% more costly per frame when compared to the 6800 XT, despite being 35% better value per frame than the RTX 3090. It's far more difficult to justify the cost of the RX 6900 XT, sharing as many qualities with far cheaper cards as it does and with the slight performance gain it's able to deliver from its few upgrades. It's simply a card I cannot recommend, even those to which money is no object: Buy an RTX 3090 if you've an appetite for graphics cards as expensive as most peoples' PCs.However, RDNA 2’s ray tracing works a little differently to Nvidia’s. Architecturally this is because the two companies achieve ray tracing using different methods: AMD does it by loading dedicated ray-tracing accelerators to its cards, while Nvidia powers it with custom RT cores. There's also a minimum VRM power delivery requirement for all RX 6900 XT graphics cards, with the reference AMD model offering 16-phase VRM power delivery. That, AMD says, is the key to maintaining similar wattage to the lower-spec model while maintaining greater performance. That and the binning, of course. The first cost per frame graph focuses on 1080p. Here we're seeing that the 6900 XT comes in 47% more costly per frame when compared to the 6800 XT, so that's kind of terrible. It represents the same kind of value as something like an RTX 2080 Super. It does look great in terms of value when compared to the RTX 3090, but that's just how bad the 3090 is. Perhaps the most noteworthy function added with RDNA 2 is ray tracing capability, however, made possible by the inclusion of AMD's Ray Accelerators.

No, buy the RX 6900 XT instead. It’s a great gaming graphics card that’s now selling for list price. If you want more power for ray tracing and content creation, however, Nvidia’s GPUs are still winners. It held up OK in Premiere Pro, but that app stresses your CPU and RAM just as much as it does your GPU. In a graphics-focused benchmark like Blender, the RX 6950 XT gets slaughtered. Nvidia has CUDA and Optix rendering, which are significantly faster than the OpenGL rendering the RX 6950 XT has access to.

Heat and power consumption are also solid. The card operated at a stable 78 degrees running the Time Spy Extreme stress test and saw a peak 429.3W system power drawer. The latter showing it to be less power-hungry than its Nvidia rivals. Should I buy the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT?
