About this deal

Those are some pretty messed up lenses, the camera house said they were broken.” Reeves told the Dolby Sound and Image Lab podcast, “The edges of the frame were completely distorted, and sometimes the focus was on the weirdest part of the frame.” Then there are the usual outliers: 4DX, where the seats move and you will experience lights flashing and water splashing and can be an awful lot of fun if you’re in the mood and ScreenX, where you get the extra picture to the sides, which from experience doesn’t work that well. Since 2021, Olympus cameras have been sold under the OM System name. The Olympus TG-6 was our favorite waterproof compact camera - and this has now been reborn as the OM System TG-7. It is pretty much identical - but that is a good thing in our book, and ensures this newer version remains at the top of our recommendations for a rugged camera.

After you've enabled the camera (default with Insert), you can store the current camera state in three slots. The camera state is the current location, José Jiménez was an extremely popular comedy character created by comedian Bill Dana. Jiménez was a genial but dim-witted Mexican who Dana had work a series of jobs to comedic effect, none more famous than Jiménez’s attempts to become an astronaut (he famously appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show doing the astronaut bit. A sample joke would be Sullivan asking him, “Well, now I see you have some of your space equipment with you. Uh, what is that called, the crash helmet?” and Jiménez replying, “Oh, I hope not.”). The actual Mercury astronauts were huge fans of the character.

But where does the inspiration for this crime thriller come from? Many have noted the similarities to David Fincher’s Seven, a 90s thriller about two detectives on the hunt for a serial killer with a twisted sense of justice. These fixtures, which were colored with Quarter CTB — in addition to “251 [Quarter White] diffusion on all the Dinos, to add to the overall softness,” Mills says — were bounced into a 120'x130' white molten cloth. They employed another six 20K Fresnels (also colored with Quarter CTB) for direct hard light passing through the gobo cutouts. A huge amount of power — 3,600 kilowatts, in this case — is an anomaly for Fraser, who generally strives to be as economical and environmentally friendly as possible with his lighting.

Fraser worked closely with production designer James Chinlund to incorporate his lights into the sets, with the goal of realistically motivating all of the lighting in the movie. “I didn’t want any slashes of light coming from sources that you couldn’t explain,” Fraser said, adding that the complicated plot required a straightforward method of lighting to keep the audience oriented. “I felt that it would undermine the story if you had lighting coming in from outside the frame without knowing where it was coming from,” he explained. “I know that, consciously, people in the theater aren’t thinking about the lighting — they’re thinking about the story and the characters — but subconsciously I do think it makes a difference if your mind can explain where each light is coming from.”Despite being shot digitally on the Alexa LF, the team behind the film utilized a unique technique to develop a digital negative onto real 35mm film, taking the process a step further than other films like Dune. The results are stunning, as the film has a distinctly cinematic feel and texture that captures the essence of Gotham City. These incredible techniques and approaches to composition are good to learn about, but how can filmmakers attempt to achieve this type of look on a budget? Or at least get inspired when pursuing their own unique images? Tell us how you and Matt started finding the look for this film? What were your reference points and inspirations?
