About this deal

Lorna Watson’s performance is as forensic as her character – the sharp intelligence, charm and warmth she brings to the role is an irresistible combination. Sister Boniface Mysteries is a BBC Studios Continuing Drama Co-Production for BritBox International and UKTV's Drama channel and streaming service, UKTV Play. BritBox will also premiere the series in South Africa, Australia, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland. The Series Producer is Mat McHale and the Executive Producer is Neil Irvine for BBC Studios. The Executive Producers from BritBox International are Reemah Sakaan and Stephen Nye. It is distributed globally by BBC Studios Distribution. The incredibly fancy (and, truth be told, a little more expensive) Steelbook format is the only choice for those needing a physical media release that doubles as a table tennis bat in a pinch. If that's you, [...] Sister Boniface Mysteries features the return of its titular character from early Father Brown episode ‘The Bride of Christ’.

Britain is in the grips of the 'Big Freeze' - the worst winter on record. Sister Boniface and her fellow travellers are stranded in a train after a frozen coupling snaps, leaving the last carriages stranded in snow. When The Star of the Orient, a precious jewel, is stolen from its safe and a passenger is discovered murdered, Sister Boniface must use her exceptional detection skills to decide who among the suspects is responsible. But with little signs of rescue and a failing generator, passengers must also contend with a more pressing issue - freezing to death. Jerry Iwu, who played Oba in Netflix comedy Sex Education, is Detective Sergeant Felix Livingstone. The light-hearted crime series follows the crime-solving adventures of nun, moped rider, wine maker and part-time forensic scientist, Sister Boniface. The Sister Boniface boss has confirmed the return of Max Brown as DI Sam Gillespie, alongside Jerry Iwu as DS Felix Livingstone, and Ami Metcalf as WPC Peggy Button. Great Slaughter plays host to the summer roadshow of kids’ TV show ‘Jolly Roger’, much to the annoyance of editor Dinah Morgan (Abigail Thaw). Taking her frustrations out on the cast and crew, Dinah insists on a newer, thrill-seeking version of Jolly Roger to spice things up in sleepy Great Slaughter. Timbers are soon shivered however when Dinah is discovered smothered onset during a live show. Sister Boniface (Lorna Watson) is called in to investigate who could have committed the deed - action man Jono Hardy (Alan Emrys), cheeky chappie Danny Lemon (Mikey Collins), acrobatic Sandy Shanks (Alice Marshall) or ousted producer Fliss Forsyth (Rhiannon Clements). Sister Boniface must parley with a parrot and probe a puppet to get to the bottom of the mystery before sabotage derails Jolly Roger’s most ambitious stunt yet. Executive producer Will Trotter previously commented: “We are absolutely thrilled to see Sister Boniface return for a second series. Jude Tindall and the team of writers have created unforgettable characters full of wit and mischief. It’ll be streaming on BritBox in the US, South Africa, Australia, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland.

The series is set in England during the early 1960s. Sister Boniface is a Catholic nun at St. Vincent's Convent in the fictional town of Great Slaughter in the Cotswolds. In addition to her religious duties at the convent, she makes wine and has a PhD in forensic science, allowing her to serve as a scientific adviser to the local police on investigations. [5] Now focused on her religious duties at St. Vincent’s convent where she also makes wine, Sister Boniface still practices her forensic science expertise by being a part-time scientific adviser. Because when it comes to finding evidence, no one can do it like she does, making her an invaluable force among local police. BritBox’s crime drama spin-off launched earlier this year, features the return of its titular character from an early Father Brown episode. We are so excited to see our brilliant Vespa-riding nun return for more crime solving,” revealed Emma Ayech, Channel Director for Drama. Elsewhere in the series a famous organist is murdered mid-tune in the chapel, Great Slaughter’s first sci-fi convention results in a mysterious kidnapping and a ‘dead cert’ at the screen tests for the new ‘Agent Best’ ends up, well… dead. To top it all, Felix has a challenge of his own when his fiancée Victoria arrives from Bermuda with an ultimatum which could change everything…The entire cast and crew have been a joy to work with and I think that shines through in this big hearted and hugely original show.” Sister Boniface has a PhD in forensic science. During the Second World War, she worked as a code breaker with the Bletchley Circle, an expertise that still comes in handy even after entering the convent. Head of Daytime and Early Peak, Rob Unsworth says: “Father Brown continues to bring in a dedicated audience on BBC daytime and iPlayer as well as legions of fans across the world. We’re thrilled to be bringing more of his adventures to screen in the eleventh series.” Sister Boniface Mysteries executive producer Will Trotter said last year: “Sister Boniface is an eccentric, charming, witty crime-solver with a forensic eye for detail. With the series set in the fabulous 1960’s bucolic English countryside, it’s a family viewing treat.”

Lorna says: "He’s a bumbling bachelor. He’s got very strong ethics and he’s a war hero, but he relies heavily on Sister Boniface’s scientific expertise to close cases. She is the brain and Sam is the brawn!"RELATED: Interview with Sister Boniface Star Lorna Wilson and Producer Will Trotter What's Happening in Season 2 of Sister Boniface Mysteries?
