About this deal

Do you want the best looking thing for this money? You've found it –the Explore seriously expensive. The A1 2nd Generation is sort of cutesy, like a piece of viennoiserie, whereas this looks like a serious piece of audiophile-grade gear. Bang & Olufsen’s app helps to further your enjoyment, giving you the ability to adjust and customize the equalizer to your liking. I’d used this feature before when reviewing the Beoplay EX in-ear headphones and so I was pleased to be reunited with it here. Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 25th November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.) the speakers will be muted when headphones are connected. BeoSound 1 presents essential audio sources in a compact and easily operated way Both products were characterised by Bang & Olufsen's dedication to exceptional sound performance. It was a time where most people had become accustomed to listening to digital music through the speaker of their phone or a pair of headphones, often with questionable sound quality as a consequence. Beosound Moment was a digital audio master with a hub and separate touch interface you could bring along. But the new Beosound Moment introduced a touch-on-wood operation and the MoodWheel. The MoodWheel was a way to access a mood rather than a specific piece of music. Studies have shown that not many people are active listeners most of the time. Music was mainly used to create an atmosphere. Moment – being in the moment – was conceptualised from that learning. The software was developed based on a collaboration with an Austrian institute working with artificial intelligence and research made by musicologists studying music patterns.Look at the JBL Flip 6, then look at this beautiful creature: visually, there's no comparison. The B&O product is all brutalist angles, cool aluminium and one of the most high-end B&O-branded metal carabiners we've ever seen (and I'm an aerialist, so I know carabiners). Beoplay A9 was the first audio product that had both sources and both stereo speakers in one unit and one unit only. Beoplay A9 was launched in 2014 as the top-end version of the Beoplay portfolio. Based on the concept of - sound systems should not clutter the room. It should be simple to install and flexible in both placement options and colour. It provided an elegant and magic-like user interface and a fantastic sound performance from one single unit – so the concept of an audio master and stereo speakers was completely abandoned in this project. One example of re-using ideas is the wire construction and movement concept behind Beosound Ouverture's glass doors. It was re-used in the movement of the speakers in Beovision Avant in 2016, almost 25 years later. Whether the B&O Beosound Explore represents great value to you ultimately depends on your priorities.

BeoSound 4 is a new audio product offering a complete audio experience. It has a CD player, FM / DAB radio and built-in SD memory card reader / writer. The DAB module will be included as standard for the UK and Irish markets is actually a factory-fitted option for any other markets. The unit is a full Audio Master (N.Music and N.Radio compatible) and can therefore be used to distribute sound through users' BeoLink systems. The Explore faces stiff competition from elsewhere, too. The Sonos Roam – a winner at our Tech Product of the Year Awards in 2021 – throws Wi-Fi connectivity, wireless charging and smart functionality into the mix for similar money, while the JBL Charge 5 has a less refined appearance but delivers bigger, more impactful audio. The control app takes next-to-no time to calibrate the Beosound Emerge to the environment in which you’ve positioned it, and it makes it similarly swift and simple to get some music playing. Standing over four feet wide, Sennheiser's Ambeo is not for the faint of heart or short of space. But it sounds sensational and boasts Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support. Relatively expensive by soundbar standards, but worth investigating if you can get a discount. Five Stars The price means it’s hard to compare to many rivals. Neither Sonos, Bowers and Wilkins nor Marshall have any similar products at this price point. That’s because the sound is by far one of the priciest Wi-Fi speakers on the market.

Level up your audio

There's a physical switch on the rear of the A5, which I toggled on and off a few times to try and get the speaker to register that it was indeed on, but whenever I navigated to the calibration setting in the app, I kept getting the message that the microphone wasn't activated.I have read other accounts of people being able to get the microphone and calibration software to work, so hopefully this is just a minor bug with my review unit. And should the worst happen and it become outdated or reach its performance limit, it can be swapped for the module that represents the state of the Bang & Olufsen art at that particular time. Sound Quality No matter how far afield you go, an achievable battery life of 12 hours means you can stay all day. Recharging is via USB-C - and there’s a Qi patch on the speaker’s top surface so you can charge your smartphone if you’re out and about. Obviously this will eat into the A5’s own battery life, though.
