About this deal

An impressive debut, carefully researched ... I thought he handled it pretty well, especially because of how difficult it is to write about something like this while getting the emotions right and not painting a picture that’s inconsistent with the way that people behave in reality. He also showed how different people grieve in different ways. The Ofsted report said the school leaders did not have the “required knowledge to keep pupils safe from harm”. We are providing her family with support at this incredibly difficult time as our investigation to establish the full circumstances continues.”

We have had support in school today from our educational psychologists who will be here over the next few days to offer help and advice. Emma Pattison, 45, seven-year-old daughter Lettie and her husband George, 39, were all found dead on Sunday on the grounds of Epsom College. A police investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the tragedies, but officers stressed they believe this is an isolated incident with no third-party involvement. She told the Daily Record: “Marelle has been a much-loved member of our school community since her probationary year more than six years ago and has taught many year groups throughout her time at the school. I hope that you will understand that there are no other details that I can share at this time but wanted to let our families know the tragic news from the school." One person on Facebook who was moved by Marelle's passion for music, wrote: "Stunned and saddened to read of the loss of this beautiful young woman."

The family's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers while an investigation is now under way to establish the circumstances of their deaths. Surrey Police said they are confident this is an isolated incident with no third-party involvement. Detective Chief Inspector Cheryl Kelly said: "Our thoughts are with Marelle's family and friends, as well as everyone affected by this tragic incident.

Follow us on:

Summary: Powerful and hard-hitting, this is the kind of topical, real life novel that all children, but particularly urban children, can engage with. It confronts their prejudices and challenges them with some big issues, but it is unashamedly accessible and democratic. Bookbag loves Benjamin Zephaniah. I’ve got a new job, my husband has got a new job, that wasn’t meant to happen but it did and my daughter has started a new school so there’s been a lot of change for us as a family.”

Waters said: “Ruth took her own life on January 8; all during that process, every time I spoke to her, she would talk about the countdown. I remember her clearly one day saying ‘52 days and counting’. Every day she had this weight on her shoulders hanging over her and she wasn’t officially allowed to talk to her family. A lively and positive account of a boy who is badly scarred in a joyriding crash, and how he comes to terms with it ... incredibly well told Irish Times What a waste of a premise. Honestly between Rivers of London and this my recent reading activity has not been going great. I just wanted a murder mystery. That's all I was looking for! And this was a high school one which is my absolute favourite genre/sub-genre. But it is saying something when Meg Cabot can write a more compelling and logical mystery than this shell of a story. It explored nothing. The characters were nothing. The plot was meandering and pointless. The reveal was ludicrous. There was no subtle groundwork for revealing anything and our protagonist reminded me way too much of Charlie from The Perks of Being a Wallflower. The ending, oh my god the ending. It was SO rushed! Anti-climactic as hell.

Who is Marelle?

I would like to thank the school and the community for their understanding and patience while the investigation continues." Emma was a wonderful teacher, but most of all she was a delightful person. In time we will commemorate Emma and her family, in the appropriate way, and in line with the wishes of her family. A friend of Marelle, Alec Nicholson, told The Mirror: "She was just an exceptionally beautiful human. I mean, of course anyone would say that about someone whose loss they’re mourning, but she really was incredibly special. So beautiful, so talented, but so kind." Benjamin Zephaniah is one of those authors who I find to be hit and miss, despite the fact that I really want to be a fan of his. It probably helps that he’s a vegan and so am I. I also like the fact that he tries to cover important social issues in his work.
