Q: Does regular LED lighting provide any benefit for growing? Would it be a beneficial addition to ViparSpectra grow lights? One of the biggest advantages of a light like the Viparspectra XS2000 is the light spread. When light comes from a single source, it spreads out from that source to cover a larger area. The light that reaches the corners of the area it covers has to travel further and is thus much less intense. XS Series - LED Grow Lights
This is a big problem with HID lighting and also with LED fixtures that have fewer, more powerful, diodes on a smaller fixture. Quantum boards solved this problem by using weaker diodes, but far more of them, and spreading them out across a much larger area. The germination process is the very first process done to cannabis seeds — or any other types of seeds in this matter. Without germination, your seeds wouldn’t transition over to the seedling stage. More importantly, all Viparspectra lights come with a Vegetative and Bloom switch, meaning you can turn off a specific spectral range of the lights to manipulate the spectrum that you’re giving your plants. The 2ft x 2ft or 0.6m x 0.6m grow area is the smallest standard grow tent size available but will deliver a sufficient yield for personal use in a compact grow space. When quantum lights first hit the market, they revolutionized the industry. Prior to their introduction, most consumers wanted “blurple” lights, with their mix of red and blue diodes and that all-too-familiar pinkish glow.
It is a crowded field. The XS series positions itself above lights that use no-name components and below top brands or even top budget brands, like Spider Farmer. Even that smaller niche is quite crowded.
In other words, the Viparspectra KS series of lights is practically tied for the best value on the market. If you want the absolute best lights, spend 2 to 3 times as much and get a Gavita. Otherwise, this is one of the top 3 options. That’s why this series gets a rating of 5 out of 5. To maximise the potential yield from the space you need LED grow light wattageof about 100 to 150 watts of high efficiency LED lighting. When light is produced, so to is heat. The Mean Well driver does run cooler than some other drivers, but it still gets warm to the touch. That is where a heat sink can help. The Spider Farmer SF-2000 is considerably more expensive than the Viparspectra P1500. But it also emits stronger light and includes infrared wavelengths in the spectrum. The Spider Farmer will be a bit tough to dim. So this is a more difficult choice, but I think if you can afford the Spider Farmer SF-2000 you should choose that one.
