Sisters are a fan favorite faction, and their newest update helped reinvigorate a lot of their model lineup. That being said this might be a decent place to start as all of the models inside are the recently updated ones! Five speedy Pteraxii, five stealthy Ruststalkers, and three Serberys Raiders make up the core of this battleforce, supported by the Ironstrider Ballistarii’s powerful cognis lascannons. Behind them marches a unit of 10 Skitarii Rangers and their Tech-priest Manipulus commander. Do you like Intercessors? Good, then this box is for you. 25 of the 29 models in this battleforce are some flavor of Intercessor, whether your preference be assault, chunky, or vanilla. Rounding out the box are three Bladeguard Veterans, the least interesting Primaris Captain, and a Storm Speeder for folks who are curious about how long a T6 flyer with no invulnerable save will survive. The box is okay. Not great, not terrible. Existing Space Marine players likely already have more than enough Intercessors, but it’s a perfectly legitimate Patrol for the Astartes curious. At least for me it would have been more appealing had the box gone all-in on being a big boy heavy force, perhaps with Eradicators, more Heavy Intercessors, and the original boltstorm gauntlet Gravis Captain. As it stands I recommend looking instead at the various Combat Patrol boxes, which are close to the same value and contain much more interesting units. Final Verdict: Skip ItIncluding a whole carnival of weird and wonderful technological enhancements, this immensely customisable box can be built in so many different ways that it would be almost impossible to list them all. Including some trusty Skitarii infantry led by a Tech-Priest Manipulus, there are four units with two build options each – Sicarians, Serberys cavalry, Ptreraxii jump infantry, and a choice of either an Ironstrider Ballistarius or a Sydonian Dragoon. The possibilities are endless. These cranky killing machines are off to reclaim the galaxy by force, and this box comes with more than enough firepower to do just that, with Lokhust Heavy Destroyers and Canoptek Doomstalkers. You will also get a Psychomancer, a squad of Necron Warriors, and melee support in the form of Flayed Ones and Ophydian Destroyers. Adeptus Mechanicus Battleforce: Omnissiah’s Talon The Rohan Stronghold comes with a veritable village of houses, as well as palisade walls and watchtowers which let you make your very own Rohan settlement.

The Revenant Legion is a party in a box with 66 models including a bestial Vengorian Lord, five barded Blood Knights, 20 Deathrattle Skeleton warriors and, count ‘em, 40 Deadwalker Zombies. A Psychomancer cryptek leads the force, with a unit of 10 Necron Warriors and three Scarab Swarms making up the durable centre. The real killing work falls to a Lokhust Heavy Destroyer, three Ophydian Destroyers, five Flayed Ones, and two huge Canoptek Doomstalkers. Many of these units recently received the CORE keyword as part of the Balance Dataslate , and enjoy a new lease of life**.

This box includes a host of Plague Marines and Deathshroud Bodyguard, accompanied by daemon-touched war machines – three Myphitic Blight-haulers and a Plagueburst Crawler – all able to withstand a huge amount of punishment before crashing into the enemy lines in an inexorable wave of stench and decay. From one group of self-involved egotists to another, it’s the pointy-helmed Aelves of Hysh. This insufferably well-oiled Vanari Shining Host focuses on the Tyrionic half of the Realm-lords’ martial forces, bringing 23 models of archers, spearmen, and cavalry to bear with gleaming precision. Not a bad starter force or an addition to an existing one. Standard Sisters and Sacresants, but the draw here are the 2 tanks. The Immolator is cool but nothing beats what GW have described as a “long-range, missile-launching pipe organ cum-temple” no, Seriously, they did. (cue childing giggling) A lot of hobbyists love the savings that come inside the ten or so GW Christmas Battleforces for Warhammer each year. It’s normally an even better way to get started on a new army or project that may interest you, and save a lot of cash in the process. As the final battleforce box, the Bonereapers are a more elite variant to the standard skeletons we see inside the Soulblight Gravelords box.
