About this deal

The head is the main part of the screw that is located on top of it. All types of screws can be tightened or loosened by the screw head. It is usually broader than the shank and thread. It has the conditions to adjust a screwdriver or wrench. #3 Threaded Shank Routt MC Jr, Simonian PT, Mills WJ (1997) Iliosacral screw fixation: early complications of the percutaneous technique. Ugeskr Laeg 162:6413–6415This is the longer part of the screw that does not have threads. This part may be left absent in some types of screws. It is usually at the top that allows the tip of the wood screw to pull the screw into the wood like a regular screw. #5 Thread Overall, IMCS fixation is a reliable technique for the surgical management of transverse and short oblique metacarpal, proximal and middle phalangeal fractures. This intramedullary fixation is not advisable for long oblique fractures and the critical angle at which an oblique fracture becomes unsuitable for IMCS is still under debate. A double-screw construct is recommended for comminuted subcapital fractures of the metacarpal to avoid metacarpal shortening. IMCS can even be applied for peri-articular fractures of the proximal third of the phalanx and in some multi-fragmentary proximal and middle phalangeal fractures. Open access Once you chip away enough wood, you should be able to grab the top of the screw with a pair of pliers and then screw it out. However, if the shank of the screw is down so deep that even chiseling away some of the wood is not enough to get to the top of it, move on to option three. 3. By a broken screw, we mean one where the head has been broken off. Keep in mind that this article is not about screws that are stripped, a topic covered here.

Headless Compression Screws Uses

If all three of the broken screw removal methods have failed you up until this point, it might be time to use a professional screw extractor. These are special kits designed for this exact purpose.
