About this deal

On a tight budget? The Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 is the portable speaker you should buy in that case. It’s tiny, waterproof and has surprisingly good sound - it’s not perfect though, you won’t get anywhere near the same level of audio quality as you get here. It is much cheaper though so you win some, you lose some.

In our testing, we were impressed by the sound quality but we really enjoyed the Outdoor Boost because it makes the audio a bit less bassy and a little more shrill. It doesn't sound better than the normal mode, clearly, but it 'cuts through' better and is a handy addition. In an emergency, you can also still charge your phone from the Wonderboom 2, as long as you have the right Micro-USB cable which I doubt many people will.

Specification

There’s no support for the Audio Pro app, but the P5 does support stereo pairing with another P5 speaker with its TWS (True Wireless Stereo) feature. A Bluetooth 5.0 wireless connection is provided (no mention of codecs) and while the connection has been consistent, you won’t want to travel too far (say more than 10m) as the connection doesn’t extend as far as the Charge 5. Played at half volume, the P5’s battery life stretches to 14 hours – easily enough for a day’s entertainment – indoors or out.

So is it a bad thing that Audio Pro has kept everything else simple here? I don’t think so, the focus is well and truly on the sound quality and that’s quite refreshing. What makes it even better is that it's not that expensive either. It would be hard not to recommend this speaker! Audio Pro P5 review: also considerWith its dedicated amp and 3.2 inch custom woofer, the P5 isn’t shy about the bass. The impressive frequency response is a match for much larger speakers and gives the P5 a real presence that’s often missing from portable speakers. If you’re fed up of tinny-sounding small speakers, then prepare to be in for a pleasant surprise.

The Audio Pro P5 speaker is simplistic in design but the focus here is the audio quality and this is where Audio Pro excels. The controls on the speaker I did find a little unresponsive you really need to press them for an action which is a little annoying. No. All Bluetooth speakers are wireless speakers but not all wireless speakers use Bluetooth as their main audio source, although most include it. This is going to become more of an issue as wireless speaker technology evolves: for all its benefits Bluetooth does have some limits when it comes to the very highest quality digital music. We've got a separate guide to the best wireless speakers, and that focuses more on home speakers with Wi-Fi. Audio Pro isn’t a brand for grand statements. There’s a sense of modesty to their approach that’s less eye-catching than other brands. Featuring a powerful, 35 watt amp and two-way speaker system, the P5 delivers the rich, full-bodied sound quality you’d expect from the brand. Whether used indoors or out, the sound is powerful enough to cut through the surroundings, reproducing your music with clarity and precision. On the side is a flap that conceals an aux 3.5mm input and a USB-C input (for charging). This little compartment contributes to the speaker’s IPX4 rating, which is not strong as I’d have expected for a portable speaker. It indicates that the P5 is fine against splashes of water but hasn’t been tested against dust and small particles (like sand). Both the Emberton II and JBL Charge 5 offer far sturdier resistance in that context. FeaturesDr Dre’s Still D.R.E. should always cause a solid head nod and the BT5 delivers the goods, offering up a well-rounded sound as Dre’s trademark glossy production levels are handled confidently. The thud of the drums is there, though could perhaps do with a little tightening up, but we’re just happy there’s some decent bottom end on show for a speaker of this size and price. Listening for an extended period of time, and to a range of sources, it’s clear that while the Audio Pro BT5 isn’t perfect, it is a solid speaker for the size and money. Put this one in the ‘does what it says on the tin’ category. Verdict

Connection is via Bluetooth 5.0 and two P5’s can be paired to play in stereo. Battery life is quoted as 4 hours at full volume, however running at half volume will extend that to 14 hours. The Audio Pro imports some good levels of detail in retrieving the crashing cymbals in Avail’s The Bad Plus, but it can’t quite make up for the P5’s more muddied midrange. Instruments blend into one another rather than being distinctly identifiable, and again, the Charge 5 tonally strikes a more natural manner in presenting instruments, as well as better separation and organising the soundstage in a neater, clearer way. If the Audio Pro P5’s list of features was a book, it would be shorter than a novella. The features are, as you’re about to find out, a short story. You can read more about it in the full Audio Pro P5 review . Are Bluetooth and wireless the same thing? Audio Pro is known for making speakers with a simple, modern design and fantastic sound. Their smallest is the Audio Pro P5, it doesn’t have tonnes of features but it does deliver music in the way that it was meant to be heard.Small enough to fit in your bag, it’s the perfect music-listening companion for those who care more about quality than anything else. Weighing in at just over half a kilo, there’s little chance of it taking your suitcase over the weight limit at the airport when you’re ready to fly again. The P5 is fairly agile but not massively so in terms of dynamism, capturing the inflections of Annette Askvik’s vocals in Liberty well, while that tonal warmth presents voices with an appealing richness and solid clarity. In fact, the P5 treated vocals well with any song I fed it.
