About this deal

As you walk in the desert at night, each step can make a soft, glowing light under your feet. It adds mystery to the exciting night, showing us how life can shine even in challenging places on Earth. 4. Desert Skies Offer Mesmerising Celestial Motion for Stargazers. Night-blooming desert flowers, like sacred datura and evening primrose, have adapted to the harsh desert environment. They do this by conserving water and avoiding the scorching daytime heat.

Sahara Desert – Africa's largest desert and the world's largest hot desert which covers much of North Africa comprising: The desert is 1,000 kilometres (620 miles) long, and 500 kilometres (310 miles) wide. Its surface elevation varies from 800 metres (2,600ft) in the southwest to around sea level in the northeast. [4] The terrain is covered with sand dunes with heights up to 250 metres (820ft), interspersed with gravel and gypsum plains. [3] [4] The sand is reddish-orange due to the presence of feldspar. [4] They do this by emitting fragrances and offering nectar, ensuring their reproduction while the desert sleeps.

Definition of desert

One thing all deserts have in common is that they are arid, or dry. Most experts agree that a desert is an area of land that receives no more than 25 centimeters (10 inches) of precipitation a year. The amount of evaporation in a desert often greatly exceeds the annual rainfall. In all deserts, there is little water available for plants and other organisms. a b Al Amir, Khitam (2021-07-07). "New Saudi-Oman road to cut land travel time by 16 hours: Travel between two countries to get lot easier; road is 800km in length". Dubai, the U.A.E.: Gulf News . Retrieved 2021-11-09. North Saharan steppe and woodlands". Terrestrial Ecoregions. World Wildlife Fund . Retrieved 29 December 2007. Hot, moist air rises into the atmosphere near the Equator. As the air rises, it cools and drops its moisture as heavy tropical rains. The resulting cooler, drier air mass moves away from the Equator. As it approaches the tropics, the air descends and warms up again. The descending air hinders the formation of clouds, so very little rain falls on the land below.

The central Sahara is hyperarid, with sparse vegetation. The northern and southern reaches of the desert, along with the highlands, have areas of sparse grassland and desert shrub, with trees and taller shrubs in wadis, where moisture collects. In the central, hyperarid region, there are many subdivisions of the great desert: Tanezrouft, the Ténéré, the Libyan Desert, the Eastern Desert, the Nubian Desert and others. These extremely arid areas often receive no rain for years. Many desert areas feature high ground, such as plateaus or mountains, which can provide enhanced views of meteor showers. These high spots give clear views with no obstacles and less interference from the horizon.

British military forces were withdrawn in 1954. European colonialism in the Sahara began in the 19th century. France conquered the regency of Algiers from the Ottomans in 1830, and French rule spread south from French Algeria and eastwards from Senegal into the upper Niger to include present-day Algeria, Chad, Mali then French Sudan including Timbuktu (1893), Mauritania, Morocco (1912), Niger, and Tunisia (1881). By the beginning of the 20th century, the trans-Saharan trade had clearly declined because goods were moved through more modern and efficient means, such as airplanes, rather than across the desert.
