The Camplux Pro Series 6L is a reasonably-priced solution for anyone who's always wanted an outdoor shower. This semi-portable unit requires a semi-permanent outdoor setup that includes a secure mount, a large propane tank, a garden hose water inlet line, and two D batteries. Though the initial installation takes time, once ready, this handy little unit instantly converts cold hose water into a range of warm to hot shower temperatures, available at easily adjustable pressures — all finely tuned with two simple knobs. It has a wide shower head that rivals the ones in our bathrooms, three modes that make it just as easy to clean the kids as the dog, and a simple on/off switch right by your hand. Note: In the completed basin photos in step 5, notice that the bottom of the basin is concave. To achieve this "bowl shape", the lid was heated in the oven at about 275 degrees F for about 15 minutes to soften the plastic. While hot, it was worked over the bottom of a large glass mixing bowl to impart the concave shape. The removal of the Outer Rim was done after this forming.

When pumping water out of the tank (or filling the tank), the water volume has to be replaced with air. That’s the role of the vent port. To prevent water coming out of the vent port (when braking or on steep or rough roads, for example), a hose is connected to the vent port, and we installed it about 15 inches higher than the tank. December 2017:We modified our grey water system so we can dump water directly through the floor (or in the grey water tank). Washing dishes is what uses the most water. We cook a lot, so we wash a lot of dishes! You might get less grey water than we do. Use non-hardening, plastic-safe, non-toxic thread sealant (not lubricant). It’s a paste that does not dry and can be removed easily (not permanent).Just curious what concerns you might have or precautions that need to take place to ensure safe operation. Thank you very much! If we were to start over, now that we know that we use much less water in winter, we would consider installing a tank inside the van AND a tank outside the van. The idea is to maximize water capacity without occupying too much space in the garage: If we were to use the van exclusively in summer, we might consider installing our tank outside the van, underfloor. Installing the tank underfloor frees garage space AND improves the van handling because it lowers the center of gravity. While this new wash station can't make campers wash their hands, it can make it easier, and prevent a soaking; all while conserving water. We began this study by considering the most important aspects of an outdoor shower. Each year, we carefully select the best we can find and use them for subsequent summers, paying close attention to how well they perform in key areas. To assess functionality, we measured the widths of the showerhead streams and the lengths of the hoses. If possible, we took them apart and cleaned them to examine ease of use, and we dropped them, full of water, from a height of over 6 feet to get a sense of their durability. We bathed ourselves, muddy dogs, and numerous filthy trail-building crews. In the end, the best models revealed themselves and are highlighted below.

We talk about the water system in our “First Month on the Road” article: faroutride.com/first-month/ After cutting off the Outer Rim, clean-up the outer diameter of the lid by trimming any excess material so that the outer diameter of the lid is flush with the Upstanding Rib Wall. Propane camp showers: Sometimes cold showers are great. But, nothing makes you feel human again in the woods like a long hot shower. Propane is the perfect way to achieve that. By the way, we need you help! For an university project we need to know more about vanlife and your needs. We have to design a “new product or system for water saving and water managment for a better life” (like filtration products, and stuff like that), and we were wondering if you had any advice for that, something you wish you had for improving the quality of your vanlife. Hangable portable camp showers: A bag of water hanging from a tree is the simplest way to shower. You’ll just need to choose what size and kind of nozzle you want. Hey you guys!! I have been traveling in my van now for two years, and am wondering how you manually clean the Camco section of your drain system? Do you remove the whole thing, clean it with a brush, and reattach?
