About this deal

Like the Sonicare brushes, its brushless magnetic motor keeps the brush head vibrating 42,000 times per minute. Even more important than the type of brush you use is practicing good dental hygiene habits: brushing regularly and for the dentist-recommended two minutes, reaching all parts of the mouth, and flossing. As you might have already suspected, the best electric toothbrush isn’t necessarily the priciest one with the most advanced features. So not only does the motor power the bristle rotation, but it also uses some of that energy to gently vibrate the brush head at the same time. During the test period, we will try any specific brush modes and attachments, and install any apps required to get the most out of built-in smart features.

Even though I work in IT, I definitely don’t want to use my smartphone camera to track the position. Instead, you have to try to find the power button while the toothbrush is still in your mouth, so you don’t risk getting a face full of toothpaste. However, the best reason to get the DiamondClean 9000 is that you’re still getting the best clean available in the Sonicare range. The more advanced models have sophisticated pressure and motion sensors to allow them to track your brush’s progress around the mouth and make sure you’re reaching every corner, and not skimping on the back teeth or the areas behind your teeth. The brush head clamps firmly on top of a sturdy plastic column in the centre of the angled mounting, where you’ll also find the pressure sensor indicator, which glows red when you brush too hard, a gentle white when you brush too lightly and green when you’ve got the pressure just right.

Not only do all the toothbrushes look nigh-on identical, but the manufacturers seem to have decided that confusion is good for business, producing several different ranges with different characteristics all at the same time. Even if you don’t use the app, it’s a hit with kids thanks to the replaceable stickers and the built-in timer and jingle. Ask us to pick out the most advanced, effective electric toothbrush of the moment, and we’d point you at Oral-B’s iO Series 9.

The Series 7 has a black and white interactive display compared to the color display on the Series 9. Its Lithium-Ion battery still needs charging overnight but will last for over an hour of brushing from there on in, which should cover you for a couple of weeks. Although the iO10 has 16 zones tracking, the iO Sense stand is configured to give feedback on 6 zones. After spending 12 years in consumer technology, it was in 2014 that he focused his attention on dental health, having experienced first-hand the challenge of choosing a new toothbrush. This is quite frustrating for many, making the implementation on the iO much more appealing because it is so much more user friendly. That’s why we’ve put together a list of the best electric toothbrushes to suit every budget and every mouth.

But when you go from electric brushing to iO it goes beyond the ordinary to become a truly extraordinary experience that you will see, hear and feel differently. Most of the brushes we’ve featured have all of these basic necessities included, and where there are exceptions we’ve pointed them out. It can tell you whether you’re not brushing for long enough or you’re applying too much pressure, and with three different cleaning modes – Clean, Gum Health and Deep Clean+ – it’s easy to vary them or find the ideal mode for you. What we still like about the iO6 was that it was one of the first iO brushes with a personality, in that emojis appear on the LCD when you first pick it up in the morning, when you complete your brushing mode, or when you don’t – the kind of face you get will depend on how long you’ve brushed for. Its oscillating brush head features a powerful cleaning action and can easily get into those hard to reach spots, while the 360-degree pressure sensor ensures you’re brushing safely. The Series 7 has a black and white interactive display compared to the color display on the Series 8. I’m not sure if I’m allowed to include links in my comment but here’s the link to it and maybe you can confirm which model it looks like to you.

That’s a good thing, as the one thing the Series 6 lacks in comparison to the pricier models is Oral-B’s magnetic fast charger, which can charge the toothbrush in just two to three hours. Whilst all cases are functional, those supplied with the 7, 8, 9 and 10 are higher quality — they are thicker and more durable. Our brace-wearing, teenage tester found that the oscillating action seemed to produce much better results for clearing and cleaning braces compared to sonic brushes, with the action of the brush head particularly suited to loosening food left behind after eating. I don’t believe it is a reason to ditch a perfectly functional brush in preference of the iO6, but it is a benefit should you make the switch. If you’re not bothered with the whole idea of apps and smart toothbrushes, then the iO Series 3 is amazing value and, arguably, the best brush in Oral-B’s whole range.
