They are among the purest of wines, which, rumour has it, can be enjoyed without the fear of a “bad head” the following day (after “moderate” consumption). And because the business is built on a biodiverse way of growing, we have a sister brand, GreenPath Food, that brings all our delicious fruits and veggies to market. I think we might be one of the only tea businesses to have a fresh produce sister brand - that’s where the logic of this way of growing got us and we love it! Sustainable’ means that, yes, all the herbs are grown organically. But for us, ‘sustainable’ also means that we or OHTC also have direct relationships with the farmers growing the herbs. These partnerships enable us to ensure they’re treating workers ethically and support them in implementing regenerative growing systems.” We believe in organic farming as something that’s just fundamentally better for the soil, for farms and farmers, and ultimately for the planet. And as much as possible, we aim to source from and support small farms.

They are part of In the Loop, a new group of businesses aiming to build a more circular economy. It has magnesium, potassium, vitamins A, B, and C as well as antioxidants. Another benefit of this tea is this it really helps with relieving anxiety. 2. Is berry infused tea good for you? Our business is really built on a way of farming. For the last fiveyears, we’ve been working with ~200 partner farming families near Butajira, Ethiopia to grow these herbs, fruits and vegetables in a regenerative way - in what we call ‘food forests.’ We had these herbs that were full of flavour and aroma and were stars on our partner farms - and Kib was born out of a desire to build a market for, and really tell the story of those herbs.

We just launched Kib in late 2021 so we’re focused right now on getting Kib into more and more retailers and cups around the UK. With time, we’ll introduce more flavours of Kib - which we’re all excited to do. As of January 2022, we celebrated the launch of our teas on Ocado, the UK's largest online grocer. Today's the day--Kib is now in 481 Tesco stores across the UK. We’re thrilled to put Kib in a lot more cups. They are conscious of areas in need of improvement within both their ingredients list, and wider business model and are continuously pushing to be more sustainable. With the tagline “planet-positive and flavour-forward,” they are stepping up the tea game with their variety of soothing, fresh smelling and well-balanced herbal teas – from a chamomile, lemon balm and lavender mix, to mint, lemongrass and moringa. All their delightful blends can be enjoyed either hot or cold, all year round. We’re very proud to work hand-in-hand with our partner farmers in Ethiopia to grow in a regenerative way. We like to say that we work all the way from seed to cup.

Creating flavour-forward and planet-positive herbal teas originating from circular growing 'food forests' in the Ethiopian highlands, Kib (Ethiopian for 'circle') launched in the UK in 2020.

Kib Tea partners with Organic Herb Trading Company (OHTC) in the UK who help to ethically and sustainably source herbs or spices unable to be sourced in Ethiopia. OHTC value organic, regenerative and fair trade sourcing. They also operate as circular a business model as possible: they use a 100% renewable energy supplier, manage a small organic herb farm and enforce compressive recycling and zero to landfill waste streams. By April this year, all of Green Way Farms’ workers will be paid a living wage. All are already provided benefits including medical insurance, financial aid, paid maternity leave and professional development and training. Both manufacturers hold a BRC Food Safety certification and are audited regularly by their local councils, as well as annually for BRC and Organic. From the start, we knew we needed a sourcing partner who could supply the herbs we couldn't grow ourselves but would hold their supply chain to the highest ethical and environmental standards. And that's exactly what we found in Organic Herb Trading. And just as importantly, the team is also fantastic to work with. They're super reliable and have been very generous with their time and support.

Central to their teas are herbs grown in a way that “creates better soil, better plants, and better flavour”. Their herbs are that good, they don’t have to add anything but the teabag. KIB TEA : How sustainable is it? We work with Organic Herb Trading to source the herbs and spices we need but can’t grow in Ethiopia. They mill everything down to a tea bag cut and blend the herbs to our formulation. Nothing quite beats a good cup of tea, right? Kib Tea promise us a cuppa that is good for the soul, people and the planet. Most brands would class their supply chain as 100% sustainable, as all the herbs they use are grown organically, in compliance with EU organic standards. The herbs sourced from Organic Herb Trading Company are certified organic. Some of their ingredients are also certified Fairtrade. However, Kib Tea assesses their ingredients as being 70% sustainable sourced. The farms supplying their herbal ingredients employ organic and regenerative methods of growing. The innovative approaches of Kib Tea’s partner farmers in Ethiopia were the original motivation behind starting Kib Tea. Working with Green Way Farms, these farmers grow herbs regeneratively in ‘food forests’: densely and diversely sown plants that mimic the ecosystems and patterns found in nature.
