After studying the pros and cons of dozens of baby bouncers on the market, we narrowed our list down to 16 options that met the safety criteria and guidelines suggested by our experts. To begin our research into the best baby bouncers, we spoke with Elizabeth Murray, DO, MBA, FAAP, a board-certified pediatrician at the University of Rochester Medical Center, faculty director for Child Health and Safety Communications at Golisano Children’s Hospital in Rochester, NY, and Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics; Benjamin Hoffman, MD, CPST-I, FAAP,a professor of pediatrics at the Oregon Health & Science University, AAP president-elect, and chair of the AAP Council on Injury, Violence, and Poison Prevention; and Molly O’Shea, MD, FAAP, a pediatrician at Birmingham Pediatrics in Michigan. All three experts provided us with valuable information regarding baby bouncer safety and what to look for when buying a bouncer. In addition, we reviewed guidance from the AAP, WHO, and CDC on how to keep a baby safe in a bouncer and how long a child can use one. Most of the time, you can wipe down the baby bouncer’s frame, but refer to your unit’s manual first. Some baby bouncers feature a wooden frame, so you may not want to use certain cleaners on the material.

The bouncer folds flat, which is seamless, and stores under a couch with room to spare. Unfortunately, the seat cover is not removable, so you must spot clean messes. And the bouncer feels more flimsy than sturdy—we thought the bouncing feature needed to be more moderate. One of our editors used this bouncer when her child was a baby and said her little one fell out of the bouncer despite being strapped in properly.
Our least favorite part of the bouncer is its assembly: It arrives in more than five pieces and they all require some assembly. For example, the frame pieces installed into the feet and the seat cover needed to be put on, which was the most complicated step. It took us several tries to get the cover on without looking at the manual first. Once we looked at the instructions (which are super straightforward), the step became much easier, with the secret being you need to angle the bouncer. Once fully assembled, the bouncer is solid and sturdy and doesn't wobble from side to side with or without its sandbag weight.

With their guidance in mind, we researched dozens of top-rated baby bouncers in the market and considered their safety features, design, and value. We then narrowed our list to 16 baby bouncers, which we put through multiple tests at the Verywell Testing Lab in New York City. Plush fabric lines the deep seat with removable padding that doubles as a tummy time mat. In addition to the padding, the seat cover can also be removed, and both are safe to toss in the washing machine if your baby has an accident. Plus, the cover is safe to tumble dry. The biggest downside of this bouncer's design is that it's circular, so it takes up more space than other options, like the Ergobaby 3-in-1 Evolve Baby Bouncer. Despite its circular design creating a larger footprint, we're impressed with how lightweight the bouncer feels when carried across the lab. However, we don't recommend this baby bouncer for traveling, as it doesn't fold for portability. Moreover, it may not fit in every car trunk because it's not compact. We recommend this baby bouncer stay at home or at Grandma and Grandpa's house. This bouncer offers many great functions to entertain a baby, and the affordable price is the cherry on top. We love the amount of thought that went into the design of the Chicco E-Motion Auto-Glider and Bouncer. It’s sleek, modern-looking, and slim enough to store in small spaces despite being automated. The bouncer offers 10 minutes of a gliding motion, which can restart automatically thanks to motion-sensing technology when a baby naturally moves or if a parent nudges the unit. We love the slim profile and modern, high-end look of the Cybex Lemo Bouncer. It's ideal for small spaces, measuring 24 x 17.3 x 21.7 inches, and doesn't plug into an electrical outlet or require batteries—babies can bounce naturally by moving their bodies, or adults can lend a hand with manual bouncing. However, we need to note that the tag on the bouncer states babies can sleep in the bouncer, but the AAP and our experts advise against that. The company's warning manual also states the bouncer "is not intended for prolonged periods of sleeping." We, our experts, and the AAP do not recommend babies fall asleep in a bouncer due to the risk of suffocation and potential death.

It's lightweight and easy to move around the house, allowing me to keep an eye on my baby while getting things done. The compact design also means it doesn't take up much space, which is a major plus in our cozy living area. The Ergobaby bouncer arrives folded in a box, ready to go. As part of our testing, we removed the bouncer from the box, unfolded it into position, and placed a sandbag into the seat to replicate a baby’s weight. This bouncer’s stability shines—it was the sturdiest bouncer we tested in the lab, thanks to the rubber on its base to prevent the unit from slipping and sliding on the floor. When loaded with a sandbag, the bouncer remained smooth, and the sandbag never moved or fell out when we bounced it. Many bouncers go beyond your basic bouncing and include additional features, like the Ingenuity InLighten Bouncer, which has a toy bar, music, and vibrations. According to Dr. Murray, minimal, smooth motion and stimulation moderation are key, because the more you stimulate a baby, the more stimulation they will expect, she explains.
