About this deal

Here’s an example: “MacuXXXXX” (unfortunately we’re not allowed to name the product!) says it’s “AREDS 2 Plus Formula” contains a couple of herbal ingredients, plus the AREDS2 ingredients of lutein, zeaxanthin, vitamins C & E, zinc and copper. However, the daily dose of Vitamin E in MacuXXXXX is only 9IU – compare that to the 400IU recommended in AREDS2! That’s only 2.25% of what’s actually recommended! Overall the new formula did not seem to reduce the progression of AMD any more than the original. However, some people taking the new formula did show a greater benefit. If you have difficulty digesting food, your GP may recommend a supplement so that you can get the right amount, but most people can get all the vitamins and minerals they need through diet alone. Your lifestyle With VisuBright, you can take control of your eye health and have peace of mind knowing that you're getting a formula based on the latest research and evidence. Zeaxanthin 2 mg: Zeaxanthin is also a carotenoid. The body does not produce its own zeaxanthin; it must obtain zeaxanthin from the diet as well. Multiple studies have shown omega-3 (DHA/EPA) supplements beneficial in reducing the prevalence and severity of dry eye disease [1] [2]. However, other studies have not found this [3]. It is worth noting that conflicting studies regarding omega-3 in other areas of health also exist, especially in the heavily researched area of cardiovascular disease. What to make of these conflicting studies? Oxidation may be a factor. DHA/EPA is commonly derived from fish oil, which is highly susceptible to oxidation. No trials have reported the oxidative state of the trial oil which would question the validity of the results and conclusions of these trials [4]. Adding antioxidants (such as vitamin E) reduce (but do not prevent) oxidation [4] [5]. Anecdotally, many people have said taking an omega-3 supplement has helped their dry eyes. Therefore it’s worth considering an omega-3 (DHA/EPA) supplement for dry eyes.

The aim of these studies was to find out whether taking a vitamin formula could help slow down the development of AMD. People on these trials were given high levels of antioxidant vitamins and zinc to see if these could slow down the progression of AMD so that it does not reach the stage where vision is severely affected (“late” AMD).
