Choccywoccydoodah's chocolate geniuses are found in their Brighton based Mothership, where artists, designers and sculptors create extraordinary confections to commission. Shaftesbury has announced that Choccywoccydoodah, the art and design focused chocolaterie, has launched a two-floor site located at 27 Shorts Gardens, Seven Dials. We’ve done stuff for Kyle Minogue, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the Tim Burton film, Rihanna, The McFly boys we did Harry and Danny’s wedding cakes. The cakes and what the sculptors have been able to do with chocolate has developed over the years and the Christines developed the way to sculpt the chocolate the way that we do it and that’s our closely guarded secret that nobody knows.

I’ve just now read this post about the business going into liquidation, it’s so sad but also predictable. Which I think is good, when you’re having a cake it’s to celebrate something, or to bring people together. Two decades into their magical career of crafting bespoke cakes and a whole range of extraordinary chocolate treats, Christine Taylor and Christine Garratt’s Choccywoccydoodah have finally released their first ever cook book – “Choccywoccydoodah: Chocolate, Cake and Curses”.

Administrators Quantuma were appointed when the business went into voluntary liquidation, and said this was due to a “challenging trading environment, increased costs and declining margins”. I often think that Brighton is a little planet, that lives in a balloon, on a long, long, piece of string, anchored precariously by drawing pin to the English coast. Commenting on the news, Co-Founder Christine Taylor, said: “We are very excited to move into Seven Dials. One cake can easily take forty hours, with chocolate you have to work really quickly otherwise it melts in your hands. I believe proper earned success can only come about with complete 24 hour a day, 7 days a week obsession.

Not Willy Wonka's high-camp industrial unit somewhere on a trading estate in Middle America - but Brighton's very own Choccywoccydoodah. It’s very strange that people from South Africa, Australia, Italy and New Zealand have all watched it because it’s on a primetime channel for them so when they visit England they make a little trip to Brighton to come and find us.
